Paxton POE+ Controller beeping every 3 minutes

We have just had a paxton door security fitted using the Paxton POE+ ACU controllers above each door connected with cat6a.

The ACU beeps every 3minutes 24/7 doesnt matter if somebody is signing in or not.

I cant find a setting using the Paxton Net2 software to turn off the beeps

I have also checked the to see if I am scanning / pinging network endpoints but I have nothing on the network that does this

Can anybody recommend or know a solution to turn off the beeps

Is it supplying POE or drawing it? If it is drawing, check the switch. We had an issue where by the door got in a loop as it was drawing too much power on startup so the port was being cycled, which made the door restart which drew too much power, etc, etc.

Its supplying POE, its on cat6a which i know is overkill. All 14 controllers doing the same. They are connected aroun 15W on Wired experiance FE

Does NET2 show anything in the logs for the device?

Ive spoken to two guys and they said the devices dont beep

I'm not sure which device it was, but we had reports of our ACUs beeping and it turned out to be our network scanner/monitor, It beeped everytime something pinged it. (i know you mentioned this but when I left ping -t running on it it was reported asap! ) Edited April 24, 2023 by tdk1069

Im sure we dont have any network scanner / monitor. We use Netsupport DNA - not sure if that has something built in?

If it has its own PSU, unplug the data for 4 minutes and see if it still beeps.

 

If it doesn't, then it's (almost very definitely) a ping/scan from some software somewhere.

Taking it to the next stage, grab a laptop and stick the same IP in, then plug it into the same cable the Net2 is on, then fire up Wireshark to see where ICMP ping traffic is coming from.

There's a separate configuration program called Net2 Configuration (we have this installed on a server). That has more settings in it including some kind of test mode that makes the controllers beep.

 

My advice would be to contact the installer who has left it like that and get them to remedy the situation!

Thank you, I have access to the configuration but can't find the correct setting, any ideas what I need to deactivate? I've turned off all alarms, from what I can see.

The installers have said something on my network is pinging the devices and it's not paxton

It def sounds like it is being pinged. Do you have a spare poe switch you can plug it into to power it up but off the network? It should remember its config and still work, this will let you know if it is just the unit itself beeping or if there is something on the network pinging it.

 

If it stops, then put it back on the network and as others have said, mirror the port on the switch and run wireshark at the right time to see what is sending the ping.

Going by this logic can the OP not manually ping it and see if the beeps start going every second instead of every 3 minutes?

Paxton units do beep when they are pinged.

I've narrowed it down to the application server that is causing the ping, but not sure what on the server that is causing the pings.

I'll keep killing a service one at a time
