I was beginning to think I was imagining that the behaviour had changed, but this thread shows I'm not alone: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/outlook/outlook-mail-will-not-return-to-inbox/m-p/3759328

Basically it used to be that if you clicked "Inbox" in the left column, you'd go back there. Now you have to "Close" the mail you read or go back using whatever method you use/prefer in your browser. It's not a big problem and wouldn't take long to retrain myself, but if anyone knows how to restore the old behaviour...

That only happens if the reading pane is hidden.

If you go to Layout - Reading pane - Show right or bottom then you can switch between messages and folders no problem.

When your eyesight is as bad as mine, you need as much full screen as possible!

we use the outlook web app here also and some users are moaning about

how it has changed recently (i.e. the gui interface). Weirdly it hasn't

changed for everyone, is this expected ?

E.g. would have thought microsoft would roll out changes for all users

in the tenant at once ?

Is there anyway us admins can control these "improvements" rolling out ?
