Hello.

 

Before I start - Yes the switch is POE+

 

I have a Paxton Net2 panel that won't switch over to POE+.

 

I have reader/touch free exit wired in and that works. When I plug in the dual maglocks the unit restarts and gets stuck a power loop until I disconnect a reader or the dual maglocks.

 

I have seen something online about these switches and POE+ issues but lost it.

 

There are other POE devices plugged in and they are working fine (APs, phone and other paxton panels (only single maglock on the door)

 

Anyone else have same issue or come across this?

My first thought would be, what's the POE budget like on that switch - has it got the power rating to run everything you need it to? If you disconnect the other devices and run just the problematic Paxton item, do you get the same result?

 

My second thought would be, is it the Paxton unit. The switch is POE+, I assume the Paxton isn't something daft like POE++? Does that same unit run OK from another POE switch or power injectors?

Switch is under budget. There is only about 6 poe devices plugged in. Its a 48 port switch
Are all the devices you have plugged into the same switch exceeding the POE budget?

Is the paxton panel working in any other switch of the same type, what is the PoE standard of the panel it does not require poe passive or anything like that does it?

We have a mix of 2920 and 2930 on site (48G POE+ SFP+). But there is no 2930 in this cabinet.

 

As far as i know there they are "af" and "at" panels.

 

I'm going to speak to Paxton to see if they are come across this but i have a feeling that they will blame the switch.

They, prob will straight off because it is always a networking issue ;), as a last resort have you tried testing the panel next to the switch to rule out cable (apologies if you have tried this) also test it on another switch if you can.

I imagine the total load would be around 15-20 watts? So should be fine. How long is the cable run?

 

I had a situation once where a POE phone was working, but cut out and rebooted as soon as the speakerphone was used. This turned out to be a badly punched down cable on the patch pannel and the speakerphone caused the voltage to drop too low so it just cut out becouse of the dogdy cable termination, so I'd probably try another cable (is there another nearby data point you could try, or just trail a temp cable for testing?).

It also can be that the device isn't compliant. I've seen a vendor supply kit and insist on also supplying a separate PoE injector because "many switches don't really work with PoE properly even if they say they do"

 

I have hundreds of cameras, phones and wireless aps and cashless/entry logging systems that say differently. But their kit just wouldn't work, and needed the injector.

 

Running a maglock over poe though strikes me as a bit of a stretch for the 2920 era poe standards, so perhaps theirare caveats on what are supported in certain scenarios? I know our Wireless APs operate in a slighlty degraded state if not on at least 802.11at.

 

A quick look at wikipedia, and if the power draw of an 11at device is above 25W then a second pair in the cable are utilized, perhaps you do have a faulty cable?

Update.

 

I turned on LLDP and rebooted the port and plugged everything back in and its currently working and behaving the way its spose to.
