Alex0x7F Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I currently pay for Netflix, Amazon, Discovery+ (with ads ) and Disney+. Got me thinking... I couldn't tell you the last time I logged in to any of them to binge a TV show. Perhaps MoonKnight on Disney back in march?! I suppose I'd had cancelled months ago if it wasn't for the family password sharing. Very tempted to cancel all apart from Amazon for shopping and use the saved ££ for a NAS to run Plex!

I wonder if they have taken into account that people view account sharing as a value-add? I'm in a similar boat as you as my kids and parents share a couple of my subscriptions, but if it's just me that can use them then I think I may kick them into the long grass and just subscribe for a month or so if they have any decent new stuff.

LeMarchand Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 We have Netflix (as part of Virgin TV), Disney (free with something or other), Amazon (until Mlle LeMarchand moves out) and Apple (via Barclaycard). I definitely wouldn't pay for the latter as we've never used it because the few shows of interest are always pushed aside in favour of others. Slightly off-topic, but I'm worried that "The Sandman" isn't mentioned by Netflix as one of its hits. Doesn't sound like "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is going to make it to our screens .

The Profile Transfer feature allows people on your account to transfer a profile – including recommendations, viewing history, My List, settings, saved games and more – to their own membership that they pay for. Learn more. We will never transfer your payment information to the new account, and there is no charge for enabling this feature. Children's profiles and PIN-protected profiles cannot be transferred. chazzy2501 Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 I had Netflix for a year longer than I wanted because I was letting family (not household) use it. I'd have definitely cancelled it if this happened.
GrumbleDook Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Netflix (paid for and heavily used), Prime (perk to be earned via life insurance), Disney+ (used to be DisneyLife subscribers and this gets a hammering too), Apple+ (part of the ONE package) and annual pass for Plex. Also have Virgin Media as it makes no difference on the size of TV pack in the bundle we are on and I picked up a freebie on the Sky Sports Mobile pass so I can watch a bit of football (Prime is good for football too, at times). We also use Amazon Kids, Audible (worth it for the 1 credit a month you get and the Originals stuff!), Kindle unlimited, Marvel Unlimited and the local library. I've tried to see what we can drop and it varies so much from week to week, month to month that I just go with the flow for the moment. I think it might be Netflix that goes in the end.

For UK Netflix users, this could be about to become even more complicated, as the UK watchdog is reportedly branding password sharing as illegal. The Intellectual Property Office has published new guidance alongside Facebook owner Meta which says: “Piracy is a major issue for the entertainment and creative industries. Pasting internet images into your social media without permission, or accessing films, TV series or live sports events through Kodi boxes, hacked Fire Sticks or apps without paying a subscription is an infringement of copyright and you may be committing a crime.” (My emphasis) So a totally unbiased bit of work, then? Does this mean FB will be policing people's feeds, because content will soon be scarce if it does. Not condoning password sharing or other copyright infringement and IANAL, but I thought the offence was the sharingrather than the viewing, too. Still, might be bad news for staff using their personal accounts to entertain the pupils. I find a lot of content on Netflix though. Apple TV+, oth, I had free for 5 months and never used! They have some shows of interest, but there's always something better on Netflix, Disney or even Prime. Related to the Forbes article, from the .gov site, bad news for FB Marketplace, I suspect: Social media is ever evolving and in recent years, has allowed us to sell and buy products via online marketplaces. This is great but has also given opportunity for counterfeiters to peddle fake goods to unknowing consumers. Buying fake products can put yourself and your loved ones at risk. They don’t always comply to safety regulations and by purchasing online, you’re sharing your personal data that could be used for criminal activity.

I don't share my passwords with my retired parents..... but my netflix account is on their TV which I use whilst i'm there.......... They might use it if i'm not there...... not sure how they will police it. Surly i'm allowed to watch netflix if im at my parents house

To control how your account is used, you can: • Check who’s using your Netflix. Review which devices are signed in to your account. Sign out of devices that shouldn’t have access and consider changing your password. If you want to share Netflix with someone outside your household, you can use these features: • Transfer a profile. Anyone on your account can transfer a profile to a new membership that they pay for. • Buy an extra member.
