karldenton Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Hi We are migrating some of our shared drives to Office 365 Sharerpoint libraries. At present, the users are manually clicking the Sync button as a one-off in order to put a link in their file explorer. How can I role this out via GPO rather than staff doing it manually? I've tried to follow this .. https://katystech.blog/office365/automatically-syncing-teams-sharepoint-libraries But it seems quite complex and I was thinking there must be an easier way. Also we have the setting "Configure team site libraries to sync automatically" under Computer Config but not under User Configuration Any help appreciated.

We did this but in Endpoint Manager, however I think its largely similar to do via GPO. The sites can take up to 8 hours to start syncing on the computers.
KK20 Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 this was fun for our users. In the end I set up cloud drive mapper and gave them one drive letter with all the sharepoint libraries. Most of the teachers who struggle moved over to our sharepoint drive letter happily. the more savvy use sync on the libraries they want.
Aprice Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 We're looking at CloudConnect at the moment for mapping the document libraries to file explorer. Currently it's been a manual process for staff. Unfortunately the OneDrive sync client does cause a number of issues for us, especially with spreadsheets by the sounds of it. I'm hopeful that CloudConnect will be the 'cure' for this, from the demos we've had it behaves more like a network drive rather than a sync, which seems to cause all the issues.
tangotech Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 I tried Sync but found it to cause so many problems. This year we are trying out "Add shortcut to OneDrive" and so far, we've had zero issues which is unheard of before when we used Sync.
Dan2025 Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 Something I looked into, just wasn't worth the hassle due to the amount of time it could take for it to finally map. Third party option of Cloudmapper etc. Or the manual way. Certainly having some random issues with Sharepoint sync, have 365apps installed. Files randomly don't open, if you rename/resave they open fine, if you then rename with the original name it then breaks again. These are documents that have opened previously & don't have any illegal characters. It also occurs within OneDrive. Don't think it's due to path length as that brings up a different error. Luckily I'm still trialling with half a dozen users but it's affecting most of them.
ConceroEdu_Brad Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Cloud Drive Mapper from IamCloud for the win. I think their next iteration is due out soon too!
KK20 Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 the only negative for CDM is single converged drive letter if you have a lot of teams on offer, I wish they had a "variable" converged letter - i.e. I add 4 libraries that I want converged to a single drive letter. The first run for a user can take a minute to pull down all the teams. I ended up using single drive letters for the libraries I needed as they take seconds to map. Apparently that feature is coming soon They are also adding wasabi bucket support soon I believe.
DrCheese Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Cloud Drive Mapper from IamCloud for the win. I think their next iteration is due out soon too! Aye use it here - The only issue we have tho with the sharepoint mapper part (& why we don't use it) is that unless you specify each sharepoint site manually (Which is difficult when you have multiple departments/users), the auto/converged stuff takes AGESSS on the first logon of a machine, as it sits and works out what sharepoint sites you have access to. This wouldn't really be a problem, but it usually tries to process it before the normal "Documents" drive, so users have no access to anything until it's done. If they could speed that up, or at least priotise the documents share then it would be perfect. Second logon on a machine is fine, but that's only because they cache what you have access to. No good if your users are moving around.
KK20 Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 hah, we post the same thing at the same time. FYI if you have appcache share then this stops the roaming time issue and only makes it a problem for first run.
DrCheese Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 haha yeah - We don't roam our appdata but I did consider bodging a script together that would copy the existing cache on logoff to the users documents and then copy it down to a machine when a user logs on but didn't get around to trying it yet.
ConceroEdu_Brad Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 My friend Curt Blunt is one the technical engineers at IAMCloud - I have dropped him a message to jump into this chat. 1

Thanks @ConceroEdu_Brad @karldenton More than happy to demo Cloud Drive Mapper for you. I used to work in education for 10 years before moving to IAM Cloud and we used it across 16 schools before. Just click the link below and you can schedule some time with me whenever your calendar is free 😀 Book time with Curt Blunt

We've actually purchased Iamcloud
TechMonkey Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Has the new version released yet? I had been waiting about 2 years for it to release at my last place. And that is coming up on a year ago.

DrCheese Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Do often find that when companies promise a "Major new version with loads of features" it's usually delayed over and over....
