Norphy Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Can anyone recommend a SATA USB 3 enclosure for a 2.5" device, preferably one with an external power connector? I have one at the moment, it's got an SSD in there but every so often the device gets dropped and everything attached to USB stops working, including my Bluetooth devices which is a bit of a bugger when you're in the middle of a meeting. This only happens when the SSD is under load (I use it to store development VMs) so I suspect the USB bus on the laptop is getting overloaded. Any suggestions?
LeMarchand Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 You could get a powered 3.5" one and use an adapter to mount the 2.5" internally. Not sure it would help if the problem is with the bus, though. If you have an optical drive, there are also adapters you can use in there.
Norphy Posted September 22, 2022 Author Posted September 22, 2022 It's a company laptop so I can't take it apart. I suspect the enclosure is drawing more power than the laptop can cope with so hopefully something with an external power source wouldn't have this issue. I could well be wrong though.
