Got one of these

http://www.edugeek.net/forums/our-advertisers/20978-hp-proliant-dl140-servers-dual-xeon-199-a.html

to install 2008 & use as a terminal server

Dual xeon with 4gb ram ought to be good enough.

Been thru the 2008 install, when it reboots server just hangs with flashing cursor.

We dont think its driver related as the HDDs are IDE

Downloaded the 2008 HP smartstart cd but it doesnt support this server

from old reviews on the net this is a "budget server" and even originally didnt come with any proper smartstart software.

Looked on the hp support site but cant see anything obvious.

I'm pretty much stuck now. anyone got any ideas?

hmm maybe i'll try 2003 server instead...this is like *too* hard.

Try downloading the free version of Citrix Xenserver and virtualising 2008 on that. Works on my DL140.

Have you flashed it to the latest BIOS?

Have the same hardware, HP Proliant DL140, (no "G"). I flashed the BIOS to ver. 05506T03 and windows 2008 finished install and runs.
