Doesn't exist..... Hosts get charged per m/bit, some plans will claim unlimited bandwidth but if you try and use it I think they will pretty soon shut you down!

Realistically, consider CSNewMedia and for £7.95 pcm they'll give you 1GB of space, and 15GB bandwidth which I think is cheap.

 

Or, you could go over the pond to America and find oversold services with no back up guarantee.

I currently pay £7.35 a month for 3GB space and unlimited bandwidth - I don't use much it's just I don't like being capped - when my site gets so many hits I would hate to think what would happen if I hit the limit.

I understand what you're saying but its better (imho) to be able to use the resources SHOULD you need to when you need to rather than just being told you 'can'.

 

Why are you moving then? You currently get what you want for the price you want ...?

It's not the most reliable service - Site can be down for hours on end.

At £7, yes! I'm amazed you've found even an over-sold reseller doing it that cheaply.

Is hosting your own server a possibility? A bit of initial investment -but could be worth it in the long run.

 

I have just set this up for a new venture I have asked to be involved in - a basic two year old PC as the server running IIS (using Small Business Server 2003).

 

This gives unlimited storage (well - as big as the hard disk in the PC so 150gb) and complete control of the asp hosting side of things.

 

Using BT Business Broadband (about the only option because the location is very remote) with a static IP address and unlimited up/download.

 

The bandwidth is not brilliant -but enough for the site I am setting up - and this can always be upgraded later. And there is always the option of then hosting for other people to help raise the cash for an upgrade.

 

Probably not ideal for what you want - but works great for me - especially as the website is tied in to an MIS which allows much easier integration.

 

Just though it was worth mentioning as an option - sorry if you have already ruled it out as a non-starter.

I run a couple of websites on BT business broadband. But the upstream is capped at 440kb/s for BT Business broadband which is fine for displaying html but useless for anything else, and I certainly wouldnt recommend it for a proper website hosting.

ASP generally kicks stuff out as html anyway - so works great as long as you do not have a huge amount of graphics - which none of my stuff generally does.

 

I am not suggesting it is possible to host huge web pages with thousands of hits everyday - but it is a way to get started, and then you can build the bandwidth up as the website grows - hopefully using the website to generate the revenue for the bandwidth with advertising or subscriptions.

 

I am just using it to get started at the moment - and will almost certainly look to upgrade it to something meatier if everything develops well - but by then money will not be a huge issue.

Not at all - it is a website for selling holiday homes. But also looking at having a discussion forum on there for a private members group I am currently negotiating with (only around 50 members - so not going to be that bandwidth hungry).
