O365 Office A1 Plus Students License - How to Disable/Enable services?

Hi,

Is there any way to disable some of the services under the 0365 Office A1 Plus Students license once the student signup and verified their email address?

You should be able to untick the licences in the admin centre, per user.

If you want to do it in bulk, it’s via Powershell. Salamander does this for us on user creation, but I can also script it myself.

Not got the syntax with me here, but I can look on my server after this weekend.

Is there anyway to make it as default? e.g. we allow students to do self signup... so we do not want to manually uncheck these services.

I don’t think so. I think if you want it to be automated, you have to schedule the script to run.

However, this is from my old-school understanding and things may well have moved on with Azure and integration tools.

Thanks!

Yes. It would be great if there is a way to change the default services available for our students once they signup. I know we might be able to do something with a script and run it on a schedule.

You can change the services in the licence groups at any time and click ‘reprocess’ which will update the licences on users of that licence group. But this will be a manual job.

Yes. We can manually remove and add services per user.

Wish there is a way to disable/enable services to the actual license so that it is a default settings once the user signup.

You can create one license group per O365 application/service component(*) and add/remove from license groups as necessary by script

So imagine you have groups like this

  1. g-o365-exchange
  2. g-o365-sharepoint
  3. g-o365-planner
  4. g-o365-delve
  5. g-o365-Teams
  6. Etc

You can use the license group feature to map each group to the corresponding service component of the A1 o365 license and go nuts.

Note that some things require combos of features, e.g. if you create a group like this for Teams Voice & calling plan components, the license group configuration will insist that basic Teams is also allocated by the group as you can’t add teams voice if teams ain’t there (not appropriate to A1 I know but good enough for an example)

Yes. I will probably have to create a dynamic group to capture this group of users and then maybe write a script to remove the default license from sign up and then add them back or move them to another group with the correct services. Hope that is possible.

Any reason you aren't just assigning the licenses to them yourself? And disable self-sign up, then you wouldn't have to go through all of that

How they register won't affect how the accounts are managed in that regards, it's still the same environment just changes how the licenses apply

Random question, but how did you get O365 Office A1 Plus. All but one of our schools have plain A1, but one has A1 Plus and they have the option to download the 365 ProPlus. I'd like all the schools to have this but I don't see how to obtain it??

We have it, but I think it came with our purchase of Microsoft 365 A3 licenses (faculty and student versions).

Same here I had a script that ran after the initial student account was created in local AD to then allocate correct services i.e. no Skype, set language defaults but that was over 6 years ago, things have prob changed a bit now and I'm not involved in that area anymore.
