This individual will be responsible for supporting a wide range of hardware and software solutions within the teaching and learning environments. Duties include planning and assisting with projects, and providing support to staff and students. Fault finding and resolution. Safeguarding: To uphold the College’s Staff Code of Conduct and policies in respect of child protection and safeguarding matters Collaborating with colleagues: Promote a creative and collaborative working environment Create, maintain and enhance effective relationships Ensure a working environment which pays due regard to health and safety requirements Specific responsibilities for this post: Deputise in the absence of the IT Manager on all related ITS matters; Provide support and direction to the ITS Team members; Install and test new software; Make software available to appropriate users; Identify and install essential software patches; Ensure the antivirus software is installed, kept up to date and working properly on all stations; To maintain antivirus, firewall and content monitoring software; Provide relevant IT support in classrooms and across whole site; Check new computer equipment on arrival and install as appropriate; Maintain inventory records of all IT equipment within the college; Keep a log of all technical faults by use of helpdesk software; Assist the IT Manager in the deployment of technology solutions around the college; Liaise with external suppliers for the repair of equipment under warranty or maintenance contract; Liaise with third party support agencies to resolve faults in a timely manner; Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person; Setup, maintain and remove user accounts as appropriate; Deputise in the absence of the IT Manager on all related ITS matters; Carry out routine checks; Perform preventative maintenance across the college; Be familiar with the network infrastructure; Follow recommended policies and procedures; To maintain/update the system software; Involvement in system development; Setup of accounts, laptops, computers to facilitate exams and online testing; Monitor and place orders for consumables as appropriate; To support users with updating and maintaining the UCC website. System Development Identify areas of the network that would benefit from updating/upgrading or replacing equipment/software or infrastructure. Investigate, assess and plan for improved provision of IT services. Fault finding and resolution To fault find and troubleshoot IT related issues to a point where the issue is resolved. Keep any users involved updated with current situation/progress regarding issue. If necessary discuss with other members of department. where required contact third party support providers or suppliers to secure a suitable solution to the issue. System Security Antivirus Support the IT Manager to update, maintain and monitor antivirus software. Keep up to date with development and news reports of issues regarding computer viruses, malware and malicious attacks. Station Build Prepare and build workstations to the required locations on the network. Ensure all relevant security software and settings are in place together with appropriate software for the purpose and location of the workstation. Allocate required printers. Test and install in relevant location, paying attention to cable management and ergonomic positioning for end user. Hardware Maintenance Setup, maintain, repair and upgrade workstations as necessary. Ensure all IT related equipment on site is in good condition and suitable for use. Liaise with third party support agencies where necessary. User Accounts Create new user accounts for students and staff as appropriate to their use. Add users to appropriate groups, including mail groups. Ensure that only appropriate permissions are allocated. Make sure that staff have appropriate access to the MIS and other required software. Setup 365 emails access and apply/modify permissions accordingly. Add user to Pcounter and allocate print credits. Setup staff members on helpdesk software. If appropriate build and provide laptops for staff members. Amend, reset and maintain user accounts as required. Monitor disk usage and student content. Smart Devices Setup devices as appropriate. Allow/Block devices on the wireless network as necessary. Maintain access permissions to only relevant and current users. Assist users where necessary to access/ transfer content. Exams Liaise with Exams Officer regarding any computer based or online exams. Read and apply any instructions supplied by the appropriate exam board on how the exams should be setup and run. Create exam logins with required access/restrictions to programs/data/internet etc. Ensure necessary files are made available to appropriate exam logins. Provide the Exams Officer with usernames and passwords as required. Assist the exams officer with the running of online exams. Provide any necessary support to the exams officer, invigilators and students. Make sure that all data is collected in the appropriate manner and is stored securely and safely. Provide data if necessary on appropriate media for the exams officer to send to the examining board. Ensure data is backed up in case of loss or review. Supplies/Consumables Ensure that a reasonable supply of IT related consumables are available on site at all times. This will include printer toner cartridges for all models of printer in the college. Also, items for the ITS department such as mice, keyboards, computer parts etc. will be checked and orders placed as necessary. To undertake work and other duties as delegated by the IT Manager which are associated with the smooth running of the ITS Helpdesk and related areas. Data Protection Respond to data requests/breaches as appropriate in accordance with current legislation and college policies. Work with staff to ensure that data processing is appropriate and secure. The duties and responsibilities detailed within the job description should be supplemented by those accountabilities, roles and responsibilities common to all members of Uppingham Community College. Qualifications: Essential: Educated to degree level or extensive industry experience Experience: 3+ years in IT support; Relevant and up to date experience of the IT industry; Understanding of DHCP & DNS; Be able to install, test, patch and make software available to others; Ability to use Microsoft products (including server products); Ability to follow and document procedures; Ability to help users and troubleshoot daily tasks; Evidence of supporting professional development; Knowledge of VMware; Knowledge of server 2008R2/ 2012R2/ 2016/ 2019; Knowledge of device deployment and management via Microsoft Intune. Desirable: Knowledge of Azure and Office365; Management and implementation of cloud based services; Relevant and up to date experience of the IT industry.
