New Servers availability issues

I'm struggling to get quotations due to a shortage of available components.

It would be interesting to hear from anyone else with this problem......

We ordered new infrastructure in February, and we still haven't got it in due to a delay in connectors. The rest of the hardware is here, but only arrived at the end of May. HP stuff!

Have you thought about using someone else's computers?

 

I just decommissioned 6 servers, ordered new ones; they all arrived, were configured and added to the cluster in under 2 min!

Seriously though, cloud really does take a lot of the hassle away from infrastructure.

Not had any issue with getting servers, ordered some HP ones a couple of weeks back and arrived this week.

Nor me... in fact got one sitting on my floor that came yesterday. Ordered it on Tuesday at 4.00pm.

 

If a supplier can't supply, don't use them. Go talk to one of the giants. They have clout with the manufacturers.

Thank you. I’ve ended up communicating directly with Dell. For the spec I’m looking for there’s a shortage Nics at the moment but they’re doing the legwork. Looking like a 2 to 3 month wait.

Haven't been buying servers, but have been buying other stuff from Dell. I've been choosing from what's available for very quick delivery and where necessary adding components myself to match the specs I need. They seem short on memory and large SSDs at the minute...

 

Edit: we also had a warranty claim on a monitor which was supposed to be advance replace (ie send out replacement before receiving faulty one). When I hadn't heard anything for a week I chased the account manager and they said it was a 2 month wait for an identical model, but we could have a silver one next day... Just reinforcing the point about checking what's in stock. Some stuff has been arriving next day, some almost identical kit is on back order.

I’m after HP servers and sff hard drivers. No chance. Current estimates of of august. I’m doubtful it’ll be that soon

I don't trust anything over 6 weeks. If it ain't on a boat from China, it probably doesn't exist yet.

HP Laptop and desktop however seem to relatively plentiful. Just need some on-prem servers for a short while.
