Google workspace/chrome not playing nicely with mandatory Windows profiles

Firstly, I apologise if this is not the right place to post this!

We use mandatory profiles on our desktop PCs and, every morning, users log into Google Workspace using Chrome and are good to go.

However, over the past few days, users have started seeing a pop up, when signing into their Google account on Chrome, stating that "Your organisation will manage this profile". Upon clicking continue, they are asked to pick a colour scheme for this 'profile' and a new chrome short cut is created on the desktop.

 

If they click cancel rather than go through the acceptance and colour selection, they are automatically logged out. If they close the browser (even after logging in successfully) they are also logged out.

 

As is the expected behaviour with the mandatory they are also logged out whenever they sign out of Windows. This usually wouldn't be an issue but the steps mentioned above are making singing in to and using Google workspace just that little bit more awkward.

If anyone has any ideas on how I can stop this new profile pop up it would be greatly received.

This must be common to a new Chrome update that has been pushed out. We had one member of staff query this on their laptop and another member of staff said they Merged the profiles and all the bookmarks from their Work and Personal accounts were merged together.

 

I wonder if the Group Policy ADMX files have been updated and they need updating on our systems however thinking about this, if a member of staff uses their personal PC or Laptop at home to access their work accounts, they will see the option to merge accounts.

 

We too run madatory profiles and if it is a Chrome version update it's not hit our devices on mass yet - maybe it's just a matter of time!

 

My machine at work asked me what i wanted to do and i can't remember what i clicked but it's not sync'd the accounts.

I was also wondering about ADMX files having been updated to reflect this. I will have a look in the morning I think!

It looks like this "your organisation will manager this profile" applies to version 102.

Looks like it might start happening on Edge too.

 

I've got hold of the new ADMX files and I can't see anything in there about the sync.

I feel like Sync is already enabled but I'll double check later/tomorrow morning.

We have fixed it ourselves using a login script which alters the 'local state' file stored in the users profile.

 

The line we alter is: "user_accepted_account_management":true,"user_name":"[email protected]" and change the email address to the login users own email address.

 

Popup box now gone away!

Change the local state file as I’ve stated above, while we are mandatory profs, I’m sure you will know how to make the change permanent to suit your environment.

This seems to be the way. I've added an edited version of the Local State to our mandatory profile which is successfully stopping the account management and colour selection prompts. However, I am now getting the profile picker load every time someone loads chrome with two rather generic profiles to choose from. Regardless of which is picked, Chrome behaves normally after that. Hopefully I can figure that part out next but thank you for pointing me in the right direction!
