njreynolds Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Hi For some exam laptops, I need to turn off Spell Check in Office 2019. As far as I can see this is no longer possible. Has anyone managed to do this ? Thanks
RLR Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 We moved away from Office for exams and started using Exam Write Pad. The developer is very active and releases updates frequently with new features/bug fixes. More info at http://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-software/193723-examwritepad.html 1
ConTheITGuy Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 I currently use Office 2021 for exams and my GPO for exam users works well, no spell check, auto capitalisation etc. If you still need help with this I'll share my policy with you so you can test it.
njreynolds Posted May 6, 2022 Author Posted May 6, 2022 Hi. Thanks for replying. It would be awesome, if I could have a look at your GPO. Thanks very much
Rob_D Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 We use this to disable spellcheck (we're using Office 365 now, but it worked on 2019 as well), but for users rather than machines. It would be good to see if celliottadmin has something better.
ConTheITGuy Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 I've shared my policy to the OP via a message. I've attached some images of the basis of the policy, if you want to see the full policy I'll send you the link to view it. 1
AM369 Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Do any of these settings stop the user from manually enabling them again? I've got the same settings but found they are not greyed out settings so students can still tick enable spell checks etc
ConTheITGuy Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Disabling the commands using the codes I’ve used above greys out all the options preventing the users turning them back on
AM369 Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 Perfect. Only thing I can't seem to restrict is users going through 'Review > Language > Language Preferences' which allows them to tick\untick settings again. I might have a conflicting setting somewhere but have you managed to restrict this too? Thanks.
ConTheITGuy Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 I managed to restrict this with no issues on the codes I've posted above. Potentially something could be conflicting with the policy. 1
LJF Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 Hi, Is there a way to disable users from right clicking the status bar and turning Spelling and Grammar back on in Office 2016? @AM369 - control ID's for Language preferences (Office 2016) TranslateMenu menu 20574 TranslateDocument button 21186 TranslateSelected button 22095 MiniTranslator toggleButton 12843 TranslationLanguageOptions button 19243 LanguageCommands menu 22144 SetLanguage button 790 LanguagePreferences button 22145 ReviewJapaneseConsistencyChecker button 2815 ImeDictionaryUpdate button 827 1
DaveTheTech Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 It might be worth looking at this thread: Disable spellcheck Word 2016 (edugeek.net)
simpsonj Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 Having had this issue for literally a decade, I would highly recommend shifting to Exam Write Pad instead!
ConTheITGuy Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 Here is a copy of the policy I use in my school, it works flawlessly. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10JbAjdU_Dgdb8pemNlVUvgc3wtpfIbFn?usp=sharing 1 2
LJF Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 I've already been through the 2016 thread and rechecked the settings. Bit stuck as they school want to use MS Word 'usual way of working'
ConTheITGuy Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 The Policy linked above is working on Office 2021 LTSC with no issues. I have tested with Office 16 - 19 also and had no issues and it complies with exam requirements.
Dark_Lincoln Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Word 2016: When clicking 'Save As' choosing 'save options' under the tools drop down menu allows users to enable all the proofing options. Still looking into how to patch this unless anyone knows?
