As of 21 April 2022, Apple has discontinued macOS Server. Existing macOS Server customers can continue to download and use the app with macOS Monterey.

The most popular server features—Caching Server, File Sharing Server, and Time Machine Server are bundled with every installation of macOS High Sierra and later, so that even more customers have access to these essential services at no extra cost.

To be honest, it’s more surprising to me that Apple have left it as long as they have to take it out back and shoot it. They’ve been slowly gimping it since they discontinued the xServe.

Oh well, life goes on.

For a brief moment (just before iphone) it showed promise for being a distributed blogging and podcasting platform, all they needed to do was 1) make the code that ran the services on the server a bit more reliable 2)facilitate discovery and reverse proxy through icloud (as they did with other services back in the day)

They could have given their users a viable alternative to Facebook.
