Hi everyone,

So even though I told teachers to check who’s allowed on the photography and video list a student still managed to get filmed.

I need to block them out.

Until now I’ve been using iMovie and ‘Picture in Picture’ with a black square that just hovers over the student.

Is there a better way or other software that can blur a face better.

Many thanks all.

I'd not use any clips with them in. Doesn't look good in my opinion blurring out students for promotional material.

Mind you, you're not the only school that has done that. Our school managed to include a student that was strictly no photos/video as they were fostered and parents weren't allowed to know where they were.

They were in the middle of the prospectus with just a head shot plus an interview in a promotional advertising film.

YouTube has really good video blurring software, upload the video, edit it to blur the face you need to blur - it does face recognition, then download the blurred video and delete it from you tube.

I have used Davinci resolve from Blackmagic Design. Its a high end colour correction, visual effect software, that has a free vision, that can do some amazing things for a free piece of software. The only drawback is you will need a pretty powerful GPU to run the software effectively, you can run it on a lower end GPU but it will be laggy and slow. I blurred some students faces on a promo video on the schools website and resolve made a great job of the bluring. Here's a video tutorial to how to add a blur

Re-film the video - blurring a face only helps to remove an identifier - there are plenty of other things about them that maybe clues to their identity (e.g. if they're wearing a particular backpack etc.)

Also if I don't give permission to be filmed - that doesn't mean "oh well film me anyway and then blur me" - thats still being filmed!

This, safest bet is not to use any footage with pupils who haven't given permission.
