Replacement iPad not connecting to Mosyle

We had a faulty iPad still under warranty so Apple replaced it and added it to our DPD account. In ASM I can see it has been added to Mosyle as the MDM but when setting up the iPad it is not connecting to Mosyle. I get to the point of connecting the wifi then the iPad is asking how I want to transfer apps and data.

 

If I remember correctly when setting up the other ipads after connecting the wifi Mosyle jumped in from that point.

 

Any ideas?

Not familiar with Mosyle but there should be an area for pre-stage enrolments. These are the settings the ipad will display during setup. If it's not assigned a pre-stage enrolment it won't go into your MDM.

You might want to check if Mosyle is syncing with your apple school account, try... My School > Push Certificate.

 

Mosyle support is very good though, drop them a message?

Not sure if I remember it correctly but I think you need to skip the transfer apps and data before jumping into Mosyle. I could be wrong but you can give it a try first. You can always reset the iPad the default if it doesn't work.

Yes there is a pre-stage assigned area. Mosyle syncs the MDM device list from Apple and Mosyle has it listed. Everything looks as it should.

Push cert is ok but as we are on the free version of Mosyle there is no support.

So all in all I'm stumped. The other iPads were easy to add to Mosyle but this one not so.

Don't transfer apps and data. It might be a case of resetting the iPad if you get past the initial setup and don't get the 'MDM managed page' Had it a couple of times with ours on Jamf, second time round was fine.

I'm holding down the home and on/off until the Apple logo appears. That seems to reset it as I need to enter the wifi password again. I've done this a few times now but still the same.

I think he means resetting (wiping) it completely. This can be done with apple configurator 2

Also, iirc the 'new' iPads I've set up don't ask for this sort of thing once you choose setup as a new iPad and as you say once the Wi-Fi connects, the MDM kicks in.

Finish setting up the iPad then erase all content and settings on the iPad itself. Once it reboots, try again. If that doesn't work you may need to resupervise/prep the iPad with Apple config.

Got any groups in Mosyle? I had an issue a while back where one group wasn't setup properly, so any new iPads wouldn't allocate properly.

 

If you can spend the cost for the paid version of Mosyle then I'd highly recommend, really good system, easy to use once you get your head around and support is back to you within an hour of seeing the open support call.

No groups and any new devices start off in limbo. I would love the paid support but we have 87 iPads so the costs add up.

The other iPads are running 10.3.1 but I've not got past the setup screens on this one so no idea what it's running.

i dont know the exact proccess as i nolonger use moysle, But in the DEP section your probably have to open the list of dep'd devices and assign the new ipad to a "config" i remember this been a bit of a pain

Thanks. I found the bit about skipping the ID and managed to reset the iPad and it joined Mosyle successfully this time. Talk about wasted hours, I'll know better next time.
