Hi all,

I have been asked to setup ready for exams in May, where the students need to access Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro, but they cannot have access to the internet.

With Adobe software needing internet connection to open, the only thing I can think of doing is creating a internet banned device group in ABTutor and then once they have opened the programs they need, adding them to that group.

I was originally just going to ban all web browsers, so that they could still open Adobe, but I have been told that they need a browser to test their sites. So ABTutor route is the only thing that I can think of.

Anyone had to do this before? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

To be perfectly honest, there has to be a point where you draw the line. Just say no - if they want no internet, make sure they're invigilated to that point correctly. Not everything has to be a technical solution.

Can you do something on your firewall to drop all internet traffic but then above that rule have one that only allows internet traffic to the Adobe URLs/endpoints that are needed to run the software? But obviously scope the rules out to match exam user accounts or something?

I agree with this.

They are being supervised to stop them doing things they shouldn't be doing, so just add going online to that list. Simples.

This seems like the approach to take, since it'll be pretty robust and won't be placing any extra responsibility on invigilators. Obviously, it depends on what firewall capabilities you have at your disposal.

Invigilators being able to reliably spot web browsing during a Dreamweaver-based task could be a problem.
