Aruba Firmware Update - 2530-8G-POE

Hi All,

 

We have a new Aruba switch and I am trying to update its firmware, it is a 2530-8G-POE J9774AI, I have downloaded the Software release YA.16.10.0019, I go to its GUI Config-Management-Update-Browse to file-hit update, then I get the following error message, "Error occurred: Please try again!Upload failed! Error writing config file".

 

Is is something I am doing wrong or do I need to amend anything on the switch before I try an update its firmware?

I only ever upgrade by tftp or we use a HP switch management tool called iMC that does it over ssh on a schedule or as required.

 

tftp does not work if you have tftp disabled on the switch. though.

 

Install a tftp server on your desktop (I generally use Pumkin or you can use tftpd32)

Putty to the switch and run the command copy tftp flash [iP ADDRESS OF DESKTOP RUNNING TFTP SERVER] [FIRMWARE FILE] primary

 

i.e. copy tftp flash 192.168.1.25 YA_16_10_0019.swi primary

 

As long as you have an exception on your desktops firewall or temp disable the firewall and have the tftp software pointing to the folder where the firmware is that should work :-)

Thanks for the advice, I checked the Aruba UI once more and found the correct area to upload the firmware, it was in Systems-Firmware Update. I have downloaded Pumkpin still as I think this will be a useful tool for my Extreme switch, so you might see another post from me in the near future asking for some Pumpkin guidance.

 

Out of curiosity is the HP IMC a paid for license or free?

Not saying that this is what you've done, but when I managed a network with Aruba 2530 switches, I found that the 24/48 port and 8 port versions of the switch had different firmware files. When you tried to put the 24/48 port firmware onto the 8 port switch, you got an error. Might be worth checking you've got the right file?

Some depending how far you are out with will need firmware in the middle before you can go to the next step. We found when we did all our switches recently that was the issue.

What Arthur linked is correct and is where I got the firmware for the Aruba, I also used this link below to confirm the module I had.
