what CCTV settings do you use? FPS, Bitrate etc.

we have been recommended a bitrate of 4096 and 25fps for our CCTV systems;

Is this what eveyone else is using? Assuming higher bitrate = better picture but more data, I'd just like a good baseline from people

I have Hikvision cameras.

 

Some are 4k, some are 1080p. 4k might seem overkill, especially if you're only using a 1080p monitor like me, but if the cameras are capable and you have the capacity I'd recommend 4k as it allows a clearer picture when zooming in.

Bitrate type: Variable

Video Quality: Highest

Frame Rate: 20

Max Bitrate: 5000

Video Encoding: H.265

H.265+: Off (I did have it on but had some issues exporting video, and I didn't need the storage savings anyway)

My settings are largely the same apart from the frame rate we have set to 8, which doesn't seem to miss anything on playback but saves us some space.

Same settings, but 15 FPS, it almost halfs the amout of data saved.

We also needed to reduce our FPS as our DVRs coudnt handel it with the number of cameras we have.

I've set all mine to just 6fps / 6mbit for 4k and 3mbit for 2k. Enough to see people and intention. Having less frames the image is a little better, especially when it gets dark and the picture more noisy.

 

Also having lower bitrate and framerate increases storage AND makes scrubbing much faster. (if using a mobile connection especially)

 

it is a key issue to setup the bitrate in low light as this is the more demanding.
