Dr_Zeux Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Hi all I wonder if anyone has experience of migrating to Arbor or Bromcom, that is either part of a consortium or MAT? We are in this position at the moment and considering these 2 MIS systems, pros/cons and day-to-day use of. Please message if anyone has been through this. Many thanks in advance. Regards, Darron
Primus Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Yes we've recently migrated one of our schools to Arbor and the rest go live at Chrstimas. Our main school migrated from SIMS but our other schools are a mix of SIMS, Bromcom and RM Integris. 1
Dr_Zeux Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 Would it be possible to have a quick chat about about this sometime? Thank you, Darron
Andrew_C Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 There are a couple of threads about Bromcom's business practices" that you should read...
Dr_Zeux Posted November 22, 2021 Author Posted November 22, 2021 Thanks Andrew, i'll take a look - were they recent?
Andrew_C Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 (edited) One this morning I think, which might have a link to the other. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/225018-bromcom-again.html Edited November 22, 2021 by Andrew_C 1

supportman Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 We migrated a single school from Sims to Bromcom, it was very easy and no real technical issues. Setting up 3rd party software was also pretty smooth going as Bromcom supports both Wonde and Groupcall API's. 1
Dr_Zeux Posted November 22, 2021 Author Posted November 22, 2021 Thanks Supportman. Any issues with any historical data from Sims during data migration, ie. reports, or assessment templates?
supportman Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Thanks Supportman. Any issues with any historical data from Sims during data migration, ie. reports, or assessment templates? No real issues, we exported all linked documents from Sims with Salamanders free export tool and started assessment from scratch as Bromcom has some nice improvements in that area. 2

ee31ag Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 No real issues, we exported all linked documents from Sims with Salamanders free export tool Thank you for this tip - this could be very helpful! Looking at the Salamander website, though, I can only see a tool for exporting Photos not Linked Documents. Or is it part of School Data Sync (but it seems that that only produces CSVs).
supportman Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Thank you for this tip - this could be very helpful! Looking at the Salamander website, though, I can only see a tool for exporting Photos not Linked Documents. Or is it part of School Data Sync (but it seems that that only produces CSVs). Its an app they can supply if you talk to them. We got it from their support@ email for free. Worked very well and we just archived off the linked documents into addmissions number folders for each student with no intervention needed other than the user/pass for Sims.
DavidYoung Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 No real issues, we exported all linked documents from Sims with Salamanders free export tool and started assessment from scratch as Bromcom has some nice improvements in that area. Did you export the documents because Bromcom wouldn't bring linked documents over or was it a decision to not bring the docs into the new system? We have thousands of linked documents as have been paperless for several years now so it would be a big issue if these couldn't be migrated.
mthomas08 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Bringing docs from SIMs to Bromcom can be done via a 3rd party (the official statement from Bromcom). It was a key element for us. Wouldn't surprise me if it is Salamander or something, which is fine - we simply want it done. There will be an additional cost - again, that is fine.

We have thousands of linked documents as have been paperless for several years now so it would be a big issue if these couldn't be migrated. The systems are totally different in terms of how they store documents, so i'm not sure its possible in an automatic way but probably someone will do it for a cost. We exported all our linked documents easily and then use that as an archive and a file share. Bromcom is a much more full system, so many documents you will find are not needed any more. Most things like reports, medical, Assesment, Letters home to parents, SEN ect is held in the system natively. EDIT: On a more general note, its a good idea to not try and shoehorn old sims "ways of doing things" into the new MIS. There are many advantages of a new MIS that makes work much more streamlined. NickDay85 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Sorry to piggyback on this thread, but we're looking at options at the moment and my SLT has asked me to create a feature comparison matrix of SIMS, Arbor and Bromcom. Has anyone else created something similar in the past? I'm struggling to find a definitive list of features online for SIMS mainly, but it's a bit of a minefield.

The problem is that they all have different tiers, packages and solutions so none of them are easily directly comparable. You're much better off Looking at the features you already use in your existing MIS and comparing Look at the third party tools you use in your existing MIS package and comparing 1st party equivalents in alternative MIS tools Look at the third party tools you use in your existing MIS package and looking at third party tools to be used eith alternative MIS tools Hosting costs (on-site and cloud) as the general schools incumbant charges for cloud hosting seperately whereas the others wrap it into their existing costs. 1
NickDay85 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 That's what I thought! Thanks. I've got a general idea of where to go with it, I was just hoping for a leg-up to save me writing it all from scratch

I've got a list that I used to compare Bromcom/iSAMS/Arbor - mainly the modules available and the ability to link to our external systems like EduLink/ParentPay/GroupCall. Currently on SIMs and switching to Bromcom. PM if you want it and I'll make a few tweaks and send. 2
paulkerton Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Just thought I'd wake the thread up for February! How are everyone's migrations going? Are some people doing it now, or signing their new deal and waiting for the 6 month break clause? Where is everyone at?
DavidYoung Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Just thought I'd wake the thread up for February! How are everyone's migrations going? Are some people doing it now, or signing their new deal and waiting for the 6 month break clause? Where is everyone at? Full-steam-ahead with Arbor. We have started with two secondary schools. Had our first live data site released last week and are going through the data checking. SIMS cannot agree with itself on various figures making it harder! 3 primary schools projects start in a few weeks too. 2

Are some people doing it now, or signing their new deal and waiting for the 6 month break clause? Where is everyone at? We're likely to do our Migration over the summer with Bromcom. We will no doubt invoke the 6 month break clause before 31st Aug. 1
