Migrating to Arbor or Bromcom

Thats one of the best things about the migration, we got to play with ours for a month before actually using it. It was really helpful and got staff familiar with it.

 

Those staff who didnt bother couldnt complain either when the full system was switched over.

Out of curiosity how’s that work, as it was a question our management asked in a recent meeting

 

Does it do a sync in advance, let you play, and then like a catch up sync before the final move over? I’m assuming you wouldn’t need to update two systems at once with data!

You simply send them your Sims database and they will migrate it to a "demo" test system after a few days. It's a fully working system but wont be permanent. We just used it to test and play around with under the assumption that all data is lost when we switch properly. A training database essentially but with our full data.

 

When you get closer to to migration date, you send them your live Sims database again and they migrate it. You go live and just use the new MIS from then on.

 

We just removed the icons for Sims from peoples desktop, leaving the server for 5 months in the background just in case. After those 5 months we ran a few reports and switched it off for good.

 

The process was very smooth.

That's really good to hear, but what they class as errors and what you class as errors, might not be the same thing. Ie. Have you got the 'linked documents' into Bromcom somewhere? Are you templates for Assessment there? Are the reports all imported, etc.?

I think we're at a stage where we can choose one or the other to get going for a September start. (Going live before the summer)

 

I have been wondering something though. Do either Arbor or Bromcom offer a migration map of sorts? As in, could they tell us where the data from SIMS ends up in their systems? For those who have already made the jump is this necessary to know in advance, or is it quite obvious when the data migration is completed?

You don't need Linked documents (Bromcom has all that integrated) and you can export from Sims and just file away somewhere for historical value.

 

Assessment you wouldnt want to migrate, its totally different (and better) in bromcom. It takes some setting up but well worth the initial effort.

I concur - we went from SIMS to Bromcom and deliberately didn't try to migrate assessments. We set up a fresh system in Bromcom and then imported any data we needed manually (importing old data from a spreadsheet is easy in Bromcom). I'm convinced only a madman would want to ignore the opportunity to have a sparkly new empty assessment area to set up how they want.
