Morning all,

 

I'm supporting a school who's using a Ubiquiti 48 port PoE switch, along with a Ruckus Unleashed WiFi solution.

 

If I apply a routine firmware upgrade out of hours to the Ubiquiti, it reboots as expected, but then the Ruckus Unleashed dashboard is unreachable thereafter.

 

Other PoE devices (such as phones) are absolutely fine, but I find myself remotely disabling ports on the Ubiquiti (for all Ruckus APs), bar one and then rebooting a second time (including a PoE cycle). I then re-enable all ports for each Ruckus Unleashed AP in turn (and everything works again)!

 

The issue it seems is that when the Ubiquiti restarts and initialises PoE, all Ruckus Unleashed APs start at the same time (presumably all trying to adopt the master role), hence the dashboard is unreachable.

 

Surely I must be over looking something here and that Ruckus can't have overlooked the possibility of rebooting a single switch, which takes out all APs in the process?

Bumping this up, anyone any experience of Ruckus Unleashed?

We have Ruckus Unleased at one of our small primaries (12 x R500's) and I've not had any issues (Touch wood), if they all go offline with a switch reboot for instance a Master AP is nominated when they come backup and all is good again. How are the AP's getting IP's? Static or DHCP? I'm pretty sure ours are static assigned.

I think that's the problem - because they're all powered up at the same time after a switch restart, how is the Master assigned? It's supposed to be automatic is my understanding, but I'm quickly losing faith with it!

Ours all go into a single switch, the assignment is all automatic for the master role, I couldn't tell you how it does mind! Maybe try assigning a static IP to atleast a couple of the AP's and see if that helps? If you do have another switch that's also a good shout, have one AP sat on that other switch which will take the master role when the others go offline so the full system never actually goes offline.

Ahhh Ok,

 

I have a 34 unit system running R750's, but on its own VLANS and across 8 different Aruba POE+ switches so slightly different.

 

When we first setup however I had an issue with MESH being enabled. When our switches were negating POE requirements, the switches would cut the data stream to the AP's. When this happened the Ruckus would suddenly switch to mesh mode and create random and very annoying network loops. I ended up re-building our unleashed setup without meshing enabled and they have behaved since then. This issue would start with a reboot of the switch usually.

 

In the mean time Aruba have just released a new firmware for their InstantON switches which has fixed this issue.

 

Not used the uni-fi switches so cannot comment, but wonder if meshing is enabled on your setup

I can confirm Mesh(ing) is not enabled. Thanks for the tip though. Running FW: 200.7.10.2.339

Good Morning, sorry to hear of the issues you're experiencing - I have checked with our engineers and it's not an issue they have seen before.

 

I have a troubleshooting guide for your FW version which I can send on for review. There are some steps in there to take when a Master isn't being automatically assigned (extract is too long to post), and also showing how to manually assign via CLI.

 

If you are in an existing support contract it might also be worth upgrading the FW on the system - it looks like the one you're using is a couple of years old now - 200.11 is the current version.

Thank you - there's no support contract, so we're probably going to change to Ubiquiti WiFi, along with Ubiquiti Switches.
