GaryN Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 We currently have a Ubiquiti Unifi site wide Wifi system in our school. All AP's are connected to PoE switches on their own VLAN for traffic control. We currently have a number of SSID's on our school network: - 1 for staff who authenticate via the Radius function setup to synchronize with our AD - 1 for guest access - 1 for our secondary students 1:1 devices to connect to (Password protected) - 1 for our 6th form BYOD devices who again authenticate via Radius This has been working without issues for a while after some initial gremlins with it however we are now starting to see an issue with our 6th form SSID. Devices are struggling to connect to it via the Radius on multiple devices with different OS's on or are getting connected but no internet through it. When looking at our controller, we can see that the two main AP's which feed this area both have a Wifi rating of over 90% and have around 30 devices connected to them each at any one given time. When you connect to any other Wifi SSID when near these AP's they work fine so it seems to be quite localized to these AP's. Make, model and firmware versions are below for reference: Make - Ubiquiti Unifi Model - UAP-AC-HD (High Density) Firmware Version - 5.43.43 From the server end, there are plenty of free addresses within DHCP (over 2000) and can see that devices are being issues with IP addresses frequently so we are struggling to see what may be causing this!

We also have the same model of AP as you. I will go check what version we are running at present to see if it matches.
BKGarry Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 You know what, I think I am seeing similar. DHCP is fine, but DNS responses seem to be slow. There are reports of people downgrading their firmware to 4.20.x to get it working properly again.
chazzy2501 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 We are using NANO-HD latest firmware and NO RADIUS just a psk2. We have a few clients that although connected have trouble that seems like firewall issues. Some refuse to ping unless I force them to re-connect from the unifi web interface. Some will lag out pinging 8.8.8.8 for over a few minutes. usually re-connecting the client resolves the issue. My issue maybe configuration as I've had the same wifi settings for 5+ years, and they've been transposed to different controllers.

I will go check what version we are running at present to see if it matches.This is interesting am seeing similar issues but it only seems to happen in one area when our staff are in training. We are AC-PROs. Am not sure if it's the amount of devices, I've been sat in the same area connected to this one AP am seeing the trouble with and I would lose connection and the odd time when I manage to reconnect I'd be on our staff wireless VLAN but would be shown our internet guest login page like the AP has connected me to the guest vlan. Where would I get older firmware?

I'm about to start kitting out a primary school with UniFi Switches and APs across their site and wondering if to go with the latest and greatest on the WAPs, or have them run at 4.3.21 ? Pete

Pete It seems fine to me, but then they've all been fine for us, we've never had the issues others have - I wonder if it is because we also use UniFi switching at the edge. 1
BKGarry Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 All of ours is Unifi. Switches and APs, took the plunge and went to latest firmware, no complaints today. With the old firmware loads of people were complaining at "the internet being slow" We have a high density of clients, which seems to cause issues there too. 1

I'm essentially installing all UniFi Switches (Gen2) and 13 x NanoHD's across their site while getting their fibre backbone replaced along with cabinet upgrades. Hoping it all goes well - I'm a bit twitchy about it all to say the least. Pete
