House Points from SIMS.net to Signage screens

How many schools use a house system - and of those schools, do you export your house points from SIMS and display them on your signage screens?

 

We have just started using a house system and been asked if I can display the house points on the signage screen.

 

I have a vague recollection of someone doing something similar on here but searching has turned up nothing.

 

Anyone any hints, tips, scripts that could help?

On our to do list to automate, was considering Power BI mini dashboard as our signage software supports that nicely.

Would be interested if anyone has done anything though!

You should be able to schedule a commandreporter.exe report, which outputs the data to an xml file with another scheduled task to automate a webpage to pull the data into a DB (or simpler, display formatted results from a CSV). That webpage could then show on your screens.

We struggled getting a report that could total the points correctly, always had to do work afterwards.

Yeah the tricky bit is actually collating the points correctly - SIMS outputs them in such a horrible way. I wrote a custom HTML page, that is Powershell generated as not only did the report require a lot of fiddling to actually be able to total the points, because SIMS can't allocate House Points to just a House (rather than a student) it also has to pull in the additional House Points from events (that are just saved in a spreadsheet somewhere). All in all quite a faff!

Tried and failed with this. No-one in Pastoral who should have been interested, was bothered to update things or show an interest. YMMV.
