paulkerton Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 No. Flash is gone on the web and on the desktop and what is left is a piece of animation software that can output in HTML5 (amongst other things) Don't try to bother with workarounds either. All you're going to be doing is introduce backdoors for people to attack your network, which schools definitely do not need to be doing. There are enough ransomware attacks focusing on schools as is. I know teachers will demand and insist that they've paid for a resource and expect it to work, but the answer is Adobe, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Mozilla, Canonical, SUSE etc have all taken this route to secure systems around the world. It's over. 4
DrBeaker Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Flash went EOL as we know. I Know I told our staff to update their resources and gave them months and months of notice to do so and ergo flash is now unsupported and so are any subsequent apps.

We replaced all the boards with Benq panels and, like me, the head realised that the highest level of interactivity was annotation and none of the more advanced functions ever got used. No need for more software. Sounds like your staff actually use the software which is quite rare IME. 1

The staff use interactive software a whole bunch.
Koldov Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Well... finally... The Headmaster just stopped me in the corridor and asked me if I can get SMART Notebook working! I have been through it with him before and several other staff members but hey-ho (just like everything I tell them... head > brick wall > bash)! Anyway, apparently the maths department is complaining that there are so many useful resources in SMART (and I guess they are too lazy to redo all their planning or find an alternative), so has anyone that has moved to the 'free' or 'basic' version had any luck? I'm going to investigate further as I need to make them aware that the 'flash' portions of resources or old workbooks that contain it will still not work in any new versions (I'm presuming the newer versions have all the old resources converted to HTML5 or something)? We have 15 old Smartboards (680 I think), so I'm hopeful newer versions still work with old boards). 1

You're not King Canute, and the convenience of trying to get an old and outdated software working does not come second to someone unwilling to update their resources. Well, unless he is happy to take the flack regarding a massive security hole. 1

Koldov Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 (edited) Yeah, of course I've said no to getting Flash working... Just wondered if the basic version has all the resources and if they are HTML5 (or just don't rely on Flash) - thing is, if I get the basic version working and it does all the teachers need why not save the school some money? Is the full version just full of things that will never get used (as at least 50% don't even use the 'interactive' part of the Smartboards anyway). Anyway, seems a little difficult to get a straight answer from SMART directly - is it a reseller thing? Edited October 7, 2021 by Koldov
