Vestel vs Iiyama

Looking at 75" touch panels, we already have 30 odd of several different generation of Iiyama's. A supplier has replied to a recent RFQ with Vestel 75" Model IFM75TI663.

 

Does anyone have any real world experience with these devices? They are going into a campus where they will be used in classrooms next to rooms which already have modern Iiyama's so is the direct comparison going to cause me problems with the user experience?

 

The price decrease for the Vestel's is around -30% so its a difficult argument to make not to go for them. I'd like to go Iiyama, but need to make sure we are getting good value.

If you are just going by the cheapest screen, look a Newline, depends what features you want to use with the screens.

I couldn't comment on Vestel, but if your teachers are happy with Iiyama, then you will need to get some to try the Vestels before committing, and get 'sign off' from Head of T+L for the change. Messing with their classroom technology can be very disruptive to teaching, and you need to have them on board.

What negative feedback have you had with the iiyamas? On the whole our findings have been quite positive

Agreed, to be fair to the teachers, they don't tend to mind, as long as they are interactive. We standardise the software offer across the estate, that has a bigger impact IMO.

thought I would chip in, whilst BenQ don't aim to be the cheapest panel brand, especially as we add tech like anti-bac glass, eyecare and air quality sensors into many models, we do have an entry range on the 75", your supplier should be able to get you a decent price on the RE7501, and we do have stock available at the moment. Quick bit of feedback, we purchased the Vestel's, they are absolutely fine, teachers are happy and the quality so for appears good enough. My only niggle, the USB connectivity for touch uses a Micro USB port on the device, works fine, but they are not the most resilient of ports. A bit of hot glue on the cable to stop it stressing the port will probably resolved that issue.

We've got some iiyamas in, and I've been incredibly impressed with them, completely the opposite to what has been said here. Especially the USB-C connectivity and the on-device stuff for voting/screen sharing.

 

One (admittedly higher spec) USB-C cable from the Chromebooks we use to the screen and they've got video, audio, interactivity and device charging in place. Complete game changer from not that many years ago having a VGA, 3.5mm jack, USB-A and a proprietary charging connector hanging out of a device connecting to a projector and an interactive surface, and cables going everywhere.

I have the Newline RS+ the touch feature is bearable but the writing is too slow when using a pen.

iiyama's were quite good at my previous employer, though we primarily used Ctouch and clevertouch boards, newly installed IWBs were iiyamas and seemed to serve us quite well.

We use Iiyamas for our touch displays. Our requirements are a lot less (screen, touch, 1 HDMI input and RS232 control) but so far the only issue we've had is occasionally a screen will fail to boot and need a factory reset. 2 min job to reconfigure and it's good to go again. And when I occasionally, I think I've had 5 go down over approx 100 screens installed (finger in the air guess). We're not looking to move away from Iiyama any time soon.

That's interesting... I have a few of those and the staff have found absolutely no problem with writing. I wonder what's different between your setup and mine?

Did you use an adapter or was there a supplied cable that presented a USB A plug?

 

I would like to use this adapter and hot glue the USB B full size socket to the case so that the micro socket does not wear out.

Use Vestel here; have about 20 units - both a mixture of interactive and non interactive depending on what each dept. required. A large number of teachers prefer interactivity on their device, which casts to the screen, rather than standing at the screen itself, hence the mixture.

 

Very good panels from a display point of view, and the 10 point touch is fine. Ability to lock all the settings so people cant mess, and freeze function works well. One down side, I personally think the 2x12W speakers are a bit tin sounding to be honest, there is a line out port so we have external speakers for areas such as Music and MFL. But other depts. haven't complained and been using them since September.

 

Price point is bang on and after issues with BENQ over the years, and when compared with other manufacturers side by side Vestel was a clear winner, especially because of the price point! Even by adding external speakers to Music and MFL they were still more cost effective than the next brand.

 

Have to admit - didn't trial Iiyama

We mainly use Vestel IFM75s here too, any new ones we'll buy will be Vestel at least. Currently we have about 25 on our main site with ~20 more going in in Summer or in the next academic.

 

They are fairly robust, but cannot be beaten on price (from what we've found). Things to consider though.

-The IFM series does not have an android host OS (one of the reason's we've chosen it, teachers know they're annotating on the PC as opposed to annotating on the IDP's host OS and not the PC)

-When left for a holiday in standby the speakers stop working, a full power cycle at the mains resolves this (We've put them on clearly fused spurs and it is on the teacher's basic troubleshooting guide. There is a rocker on the underside but the fused spur is easier to find)

-IR receiver is external (it connects on a 3.5mm TRS connector on the left side and has a foam sticky pad to attach it to the IDP. The status LED is here too. Had 1/20 bad from factory - replaced & shipped free of charge)

-They come with a wall bracket in the box - 2 pieces of stamped sheet metal with teardrop cutouts, cast metal studs screw into the VESA holes and a paper wall template

-Very configurable, built in volume limiter, RS232/IP(telnet) control

-The touch connector is USB micro B, cable is included (Not had any problems, but could have trouble if regularly disconnected or strained)

Not having an inbuilt Android has it's advantages as it doesn't represent a vulnerability surface and it less likely to slow down after being updated a few times. Simple Monitor type OSD interfaces last for the life of the hardware. My guess is Android software will not. Although we had some first gen Clevertouches and they were not supported by Windows 10 so I had to pay for the UPDD driver from Touch-Base.
