I have been tasked with getting Dragon naturally speaking for 2 students (at present)

the network version seems a little overkill for 2 students and expensive

what versions do you use

erk, the dictation built into office365 is quite amazing you know. Uses the Azure/Cortana tech. You can use it immediately with word online as well.

if you use M$ that is.

I'm not sure it's worth the effort any more. Nuance got bought out by Microsoft just recently. You have to wonder how much longer Naturally Speaking is for this world. I expect their technology will get rolled into Office and Windows before too much longer and the standalone product will get discontinued.

senco is set on dragon, i went down that route but got shot down, the versions is a mine field

What usually happens is that specific piece of software can be written into a child's EHCP. This occurs when a parent, educational psychologist, senco, local authority lead, etc recommends it. Once it is in the EHCP the local authority (and therefore the school) has a legal obligation to provide what is in the EHCP; The EHCP is a legally binding document, so you can't really argue for alternatives. This is usually ok for the school, because the EHCP comes with the funding to pay for the software/hardware. It's just a pain to setup

Just get the cheapest version that will meet what's written on the EHCP. Chances are the student won't use it anyway (from my experience).

Our SEN department is getting the Home version from September, they want to use it on exam laptops. I called Nuance for advice, who recommended the Home product, licensing is fine for schools to use as home is just in the name. I used the contact number on their website, who were really helpful.
