steven_layton_sl Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Hi guys A member of staff just asked me how to make sure that chat is turned off in a Teams meeting. I asked them to edit the meeting options and make sure that chat was disabled, sharing the below screenshot. They just replied with a screenshot of their own, which does not have that option. Any idea why that is the case?
DaveTheTech Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Make sure that they are using an up to date version of Teams. Think that this has gone global. When MS do roll out new settings it goes out to a pilot group - you have no way of knowing whos in this group. SO there is a chance that some people will have different options available than others.
chazzy2501 Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 see what policies they have allocated to them in the teams admin centre, compare with yours.
tapb Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 They may be trying to schedule the meeting in a channel, it is not possible to disable chat in this way. You need to go to the Teams settings and Mute students to disable meeting chat for channel meetings.
steven_layton_sl Posted June 14, 2021 Author Posted June 14, 2021 @tapb Speaking to the member of staff (and if you noticed the names, its actually my wife who works at the same school!), she has confirmed that she sets meetings up via the channels. Can you confirm the steps needed to "Mute students to disable meeting chat for channel meetings"?
tapb Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 @steven_layton_sl when meetings are scheduled in channels, the meeting chat goes as posts into the channel in which the meeting was scheduled. There is not a way (currently) of disabling meeting chat for a channel meeting only. You have to mute students for the entire class team, using these instructions: Mute student comments in a class team (microsoft.com) You can upvote on enabling/disabling meeting chat in channel meetings here: Allow meeting chat to be turned on/ off in channel meetings – Welcome to UserVoice! 1
