Smoothwall Notifications/Reports - O365

We are trying to setup notifications via email and it isn't working. This response surely is not right:

 

Please bear in mind that Microsoft has been increasing security on their systems and Office 365 may no longer work with the Smoothwall as the Office 365 systems may require security settings the Smoothwall doesnt at the moment support, so using a different SMTP server other than Office 365 may be preferable.

 

We use O365, and our only smtp server is smtp.office365.com ?

Can't you use you smoothwall as a SMTP relay?

That's what we tried with no success.

We use DOMAIN.mail.protection.outlook.com, where domain is our email domain with a - instead of period. No credentials needed oddly. Just ran a test and it works.

EDIT: Just checked, the from address we use is a real address though.

Have you tried setting up a simple SMTP relay on your server that links "dumb" devices to office 365?

 

We currently have a windows server 2019 install that uses IIS to SMTP relay with office 365. We whitelist all the server ips with applications running and authenticate with an anonymous access mailbox.

 

This works perfectly for MFDs, monitoring software, our CCTV system etc.
