Iansl2020 Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Hi all, Apologies if this is not the right place and mods, feel free to relocate it. Our school catering manager is after some easy to use software that will produce labels showing nutritional information for the meals each day to stick on sandwiches etc. We would be interested in any solution/software that any of you have tried and tested and are generally pleased with - free or otherwise. This could be just a software package or a full solution of maybe a tablet, app and label printer. Many thanks, Ian
ITGURU Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 2 of our school use one of this - simple, quick and easy and comes with its own software for label making - Brother QL-810 Professional Wireless Label Printer from Labelzone

I think our catering manager was looking at this or a similar model but we couldn't find any information about the software to see if it would be suitable. Its good to know that another school finds it is sufficient. Ian
markberry Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 You need to be using Direct Thermal printers for this. They don;t use ink so it doesn't run when hit with moisture from condensation etc. Brother have a good looking system in readyness for Natasha's law coming into force in October.
3s-gtech Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 I hate Brother laser printers - I don’t rate them at all - but their label printers have been excellent for us, and the software that comes with them works well.
mdrabble Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Our catering manager has just had a system installed - some kind of android tablet and Bluetooth printer which is a thermal based one. I had no involvement in it but from what I understand she has meals setup in software, select item and it prints label with details on. Will ask her tomorrow about the system grab details etc and post them tomorrow.

mdrabble Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 (edited) They purchased their system through Birchalls - but the system is from DayMark Safety Systems https://www.daymarksafety.co.uk/menupilot-kitchen-automation-platform/ As I said, I dont have anything to do with it but they seem happy with it, as the company (Birchalls I think) have been great in helping setup templates and showing them how to create labels. Iansl2020 Posted April 27, 2021 Author Posted April 27, 2021 Thanks for that. Our catering manager contacted DayMark directly and got no reply. I will suggest he goes via Birchalls. Thanks.
