Has anyone taken the plunge and setup Bromcom to provision their Office 365 users, groups, calendar and teams (Classrooms!) ?

 

I've been asked to look at it.

I doubt anyone will be able to answer you yet as the O365 integration was only released this week.

We did have a webinar yesterday going through the details and the MANY questions, this will probably get published at some point.

So we are in the process of engaging with early adopters now.

Hi Kenny, we've set up the Google equivalent to this and we were an early adopter of it, but it is very similar from what I'm aware of.

 

It's been very smooth overall.

 

Your only issue will be to make sure that the users you already have in Bromcom are matched to those in 365, but Bromcom has plenty of test tools so you can see if it isn't managing to automatically match users, and you can manual match any with issues (such as someone being Mike in 365, but Michael in Bromcom). I'd say out of 1300 children, I had to manually match about 30. So it wasn't so bad for us.

 

Bromcom becomes your single point of truth, so any changes that need to be made to staffing or students will need to be in their, rather than on 365, so be prepared for that with your office staff/data team.

Our current system is on-prem AD sync to Azure.

 

Teachers currently have the rights to create their own class Teams - which they then populate with the students in each class manually.

 

I'm not sure I'd want all my user provisioning to be automated with Bromom :/

 

Groups provisioning could be interesting though, as of yet I can't see the benefits so would need to understand more.

 

I'm not sure how much we use the Bromcom Calendar but I guess that could be useful.

 

Classroom *Teams provisioning does sound interesting if this works reliably and could potentially save our teachers some time at the start of each academic year.

 

I missed the webinar - is there a recording of it I can watch?

They'd still be able to do this adhoc, they just wouldn't have to do it for timetabled classes. New student turns up? The day they're enrolled, they already have their classes good to go.

Automatic provisioning and deprovisioning. Automatic linking with their respective classes. Automatic suspension of users when they leave.

It really is useful. Takes a communication layer issue away. We'd have students leave and not necessarily know they had previously. Now it's not an issue.

Keep things like Year Group groups automatically up to date. Staff mailing groups etc.

Staff and student timetables pulled directly into their calendar. Some staff don't like it (you can manually turn it off for those) but most our staff love having it in Google for quick reference on their phones.

It's been very very reliable for us, it syncs overnight but you can also do a manual sync when a staff member is in a rush (so for example, they need to attach a TA to a class temporarily)
