Wife's new laptop - recommendations

Hi all,

 

Sorry this is a personal post, but my wife's laptop is giving up the ghost, it is a HP and she has had it about 3 years. She is a heavy user, internet browsing, movie watching and office applications. She is a writer so gets some heavy use. She has a gaming PC, but likes to sit in the conservatory to write so needs a laptop.

 

Can anyone recommend a durable laptop around £700-£750 that might stand up to the use?

 

I have looked at these:

 

Asus Pro P3540 Core i5-8265U 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6 Inch

Lenovo V15-ADA AMD Ryzen 5-3500U 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6 Inch

Dell Vostro 3591 Core i5-1035G1 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6 Inch

 

Any help would be appreciated?

When I was looking at laptops for the in-laws recently I liked the look of the new Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series with the Ryzen 5 4500u (or 7 4700u if you want to spend a bit more). Seems like a great mobile cpu, coming in around £700.

 

This was a couple of weeks ago, so what is best value may have changed since then!!

Had this discussion with a few people recently, my recommendations are always:

 

Intel i3 or i5, Ryzen 3 or 5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD minimum, watch out for eMMC drives, Windows 10 Home or Premium depending what is available. Size depending what is needed same with touchscreen etc. Brand wise depends what there is, eBuyer is my go to place for stuff but have recommended refurb kit to a few people as that is more than enough for stuff like this. Would never recommend something I wouldn't use myself.

The AMD 5000 series just announced and the 4000s on laptops are great. a 3000 series is fine but you'd feel a little left out buying new. Unless you can get a great price.

 

EDIT: I recently got an asus PN50 with a 4300u and the device is incredibly fast, so a laptop based on these should be fantastic.

Bought a laptop from Colin @VeryPC, been my account manager for a while, but didn't realise they did personal purchases. Got a HP Pavilion laptop, came yesterday really pleased with it. i5, 8GB Ram, 512SSD + 32GB Optane and 3 years warranty. Tried to swap it for mine, but my wife threatened me so that was a big no.
