dsmith8 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 Hi all, We have the Teams Machine MSI installed through group policy. However I am struggling to see how we update it. I've read stuff around how the exe updates itself but there is not a lot of the machine msi and updates. We don't seem to get anything installed into appdata folder however in our c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Teams on each machine there is an Update.exe The only thing we are doing is deleting the Teams regkey from HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run as that was the only way we found of stopping it auto launching. Any ideas would be appreciated, Just want to know the best way of having up to date teams.
mavhc Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 (edited) You can stop it launching with a json file. It should install for each user in their appdata and each user's copy updates itself. In Program Files (x86)\Teams Installer I only have setup.json (which I added) and teams.exe Edited January 18, 2021 by mavhc
TechMonkey Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 The shortcut should update it as it runs the updater before opening Teams. If you have created your own shortcut direct to the Teams exe, then that could be why it isn't updating.

TechMonkey Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 My shortcut goes to C:\Users\fbusher\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe --processStart "Teams.exe"
Jobos Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Does anyone know what the latest version of Teams is? We appear to have 4 versions running here ranging from 1.3.00.28779 to 1.3.00.34662
dsmith8 Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 Does anyone know what the latest version of Teams is? We appear to have 4 versions running here ranging from 1.3.00.28779 to 1.3.00.34662 Mine is saying I've got the most up to date on my off the network machine, I have a feeling the msi does not auto update looking into it. "You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.28779 (64-bit). It was last updated on 07/01/2021"
Jobos Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 I can beat that! My machine says 'You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.30866 (64-bit). It was last updated on 11/23/20.'

dsmith8 Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 My shortcut goes to C:\Users\fbusher\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe --processStart "Teams.exe" Thanks for this so if we launch it using that it will update at some point?
TechMonkey Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 As far as I am aware yes. It launches the update.exe, which checks and updates if needed and then launches the Teams.exe once done.
