Office 365 for home use

Hi all

 

being lazy and asking here rather than searching on the www first

 

Basically my new laptop logs in via my old hotmail account - which seems to be linked to outlook.com nowadays

 

and seems to have grown Office365 kinda automatically - I certainly didn't do anything

 

it just started off like that when I got it and I've just left it

 

My wife's logs in locally - just because - but she does connect to an outlook.com account

 

but she does not have Office 365

 

 

so I was wondering - does Office 365 (Word Excel Powerpoint at least) just come free on Windows 10 - and if not how come I seem to have it with no license or use of nautical means

 

and if I change my wife's to log in through her outlokk.com account will it automatically grow Office 365???

 

 

 

at the moment she uses LibreOffice - but doesn't like it because it is not identical to Office 2013 that she used to use at work

 

sort of like my Mum who always had trouble driving cars that were not the same as a Morris 1000 - because all the switches and levers were in the wrong place and labelled wrongly

You get access to the Office 365 online tools (so Office in the browser) for free with your Hotmail/Outlook account. You don't get the downloadable click-to-run Office 365 without a subscription. Your wife's Outlook account should get the same. At least, that's the norm.

 

Are you saying that you can sign in to the pre-installed Office 365 apps on the PC with your Hotmail account, and it's not just running as a trial?

Personally I have a MS 365 business account with exchange, teams, sharepoint, etc. but they offer cheaper plans with just the apps + OneDrive. Should be able to then connect up Outlook to another email provider of your choice.

When it started I assumed that it was a trial and would stop after a months or so

 

but it is still going with no mention of a trial

 

not running in browser either

 

there are app installed - I presume they were pre-installed but I have never paid for any license or anything
