I cannot believe how expensive adobe acrobat / the foxit alternative is these days!

I was wondering what others are using to password protect PDF files that cannot be imported into word.

We make use of our MFDs with the ability to password protect scanned documents however there are times when either word or scanned in documents are not an option.

We try to make use of 7Zip as much as possible but when, as a school, we are been asked to send confidential documents to solicitors, etc and they don't understand what 7Zip is, you kind of think who is applying best practice here.

If it is just password protecting PDFs, then MS Word can do this.

The only thing that Adobe does in addition is to create sign-able fields that let people add an electronic signature

What do you mean by "can't be imported into Word"? How would you stop a PDF being imported?

They can all be imported, I think the issue is that they don't import correctly.
