Oh my, got this email today from several pupils....an over eager teacher probably put them up to it.

 

Hi Mr Smith,

I hope you are well. Me and a few others were wondering if we could change back to google chrome this or next year as we use google classroom, docs, slides and google sheets. It is also a lot better than Microsoft edge as it's quicker and seems to have more images when you search. If we had google as our search engine then we would be able to access Google drive and google classroom a lot faster.

It is also apparent that the most commonly searched thing on Bing is Google. It seems such a waste of our learning time having to open Microsoft edge/ Bing just to then search up google. Here is a picture:

Few years back was involved in a student voice meeting.

 

Student spent the best part of five minutes begging for chrome to be installed rather than internet explorer. Couldn’t get a word in edgewise.

 

Had been the default browser for a couple of years 🤦🏼 just double click on “chrome”

 

Then went on to more pressing concerns about the quality of bog roll.

These services work independant of the browser, this is the beauty of such online services Google provides.

Let me correct you there, there is no proof to support this as Microsoft Edge is based on the same base platform as Google Chrome, so if there was a difference in speed it would be negligible at worst.

Again, let me correct you there, Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome will display the same amount of images, the results are generated from search engines, not the browser.

Ah, here we get to the matter at hand, even then though this is not entirely correct either, as we take you directly to the school website you still need to type google.co.uk to go to Google and click on the item you wish to use from the menu.

Whilst this maybe your belief, there is no evidence to support this comment.

By default we direct people to the school Intranet as this is a valuable resource for all staff and students. Google itself is one site out of billions and you just type google.co.uk in the address bar and there you are, you don't need to visit Bing at all if you don't want to. Not every wants to use Google as default, and even this can cause delays, for example on the website you need to read and agree to policies before use of the Google search engine, which sometimes cause an indefinite loop back effect and cuts into teaching and learning time as well as support time.

You see if you are unlucky you can be visited by the curse of Google, where it prompts up asking for you to agree to the T&Cs and won't accept yes for an answer and just spins round and around. The only way I have found to get around that is to go to one of the different country extensions such as google.de and accept the agreements. Of course if you don't save cookies or clear them to get rid of personal information this can happen each time you log in, which is fun.
