So the new iPhone 12 is due out on 16th October with the Pro Max on the 6th November 2020.

I hadn't paid the launch much attention this year as I'm still perfectly delighted with the 11 I scored on black friday last year.

 

I won't be getting one this time out, but they do look superb!

Probably not worth it if you have the X at the moment. Wait a year or two for a bigger feature jump.

My assessment is... only if I got an eSIM Apple Watch and if that needed an eSIM iPhone to share that number, but I guess not. Another years wait it is.

They do look quite nice! The camera is what I use the most so probably looking at the Pro Max version.

Its a lot of money though. I'm on the 8 at the moment so would be nice but can I justify it. Might wait and see in 6 months once any issues are highlighted and ironed out.

I jumped from an 8plus to the standard 11 and it was a massive step up.

 

Battery life that lasts nearly two days (evens out over the course of a year to about a day and a half).

The camera system on the 11 is light years ahead of those on the 8/8plus/X. If you're on a 8, I wouldn't worry about the step up to a Pro. The 12 will be much better than you're currently using.

 

There's not enough distinction between the pro and non pro models barring camera for me. The same processor was what sealed my choice last year.

Totally, while I was working there last year, I recommended the 11 to a lot of people. It was super value.

I'm not getting one as I am Google boy and my Pixel 5 arrives today but I watched the launch and they do look nice.

Not really, considering that people have been buying smartphones and other USB charged devices for the past ten+ years and probably have a pile of USB chargers as tall as them.

But not everyone has iphone cables lying about, if I were to go over to iphone then I would need to buy a cable and charger.

No, but if they're Apple device users previously, they probably have a standard lightning cable.

Have been an iPhone user since the original iPhone and I normally need to replace the cable 6 months to a year of owning a new device. The cables are notoriously flimsy. I agree with the whole reducing carbon footprint idea, but perhaps it would've made more sense to either ship with a USB A cable, or ship with USB-C bricks for at least a couple years before removing.

I agree it would have made more sense to ship the phones with USB A cables, if they're not shipping bricks any more.

 

That said, horses for courses. I had an iPhone 5 and I still have the original lightning cable. And the one that came with my iPhone 7, and the dock to lightning cable I bought when I got the iPhone 5.

Shouldn't be too long before all cables are obsolete anyway...Apple are definitely trying to get rid of the port on the iPhone

Which is a reasonable argument if the cable they supply had a USB-A connector on the end, and not a USB-C one.

I'm hoping to upgrade but am holding out for Black Friday deals, got a fantastic deal on my Xs 2 years ago inc free spotify and have managed not to damage it so hoping to make some money back while its still worth something.
