Safety trainers or boots

Hi

 

What kind of safety boots or trainers are you guys wearing?

Had a long time with my hick boots and they need replacing

 

Problem I have is they need to be as dark coloured as possible and not look like a pair of Nike running shoes!

In a MAT working with severs a lot, its their policy we wear safety shoes of some kind

I've had a pair of Doc Martens for a while now and they really are nice. Managed to get them second hand (Hardly warn) for a good price but I'd pay full price when they need replacing. Worth it.

DM's are not what they once were... Now made in the far east with dubious quality control.

 

My 25 year old pair have lasted well, but the soles were always a bit slippery; sorta-dorta has taken two pairs back after the uppers came away from the soles.

My daughter has to wear Safety Boots on site and finds DM steel toe caps really comfortable. Unfortunately they’re not as watertight as she really needs at the type of outdoor site she works at.

I have a pair of boots I wear from time to time or if not in the office although not a necessary thing I find my Magnums really comfy, they are the most expensive footwear I own!! They are absolutely hammered as I wear them for all sorts and even down the yard, in the wet mud etc and still clean up well. I prefer a boot to a shoe as I find the shoes a bit heavy but you can get the composite ones now rather than steel toe capped that tick the boxes.

My day to day work footwear is a pair of goretex lined army boots. I need decent ankle support as I have problems with my joints. Not steel toe capped but very solid.

Some (expensive) DMs are still made in England, the factory is just down the road from my old secondary school, and where I did my work experience!

I have Cats for safety boots, they're heavy though so tend to stick to my Merrills for day to day use. Had a pair of Dickies before that, more like a walking boot. My old military safety boots soon felt like slippers after a few weeks so if you can get hold of a pair of them it's well worth it.

 

Point to add - if the MAT are stipulating that wearing steel toe capped footwear is a requirement (probably because of a risk assessment?) then they should be paying for it, not you!

I can endorse these. Daughter wears them when she is on site (she designs bomb disposal robots) and finds them comfortable and safe

If it's school policy they shouldn't they be providing them? (or maybe they are but you get to choose your own?)

 

Years ago I worked for Wessex Archaeology and the Gortex work boots they gave us have been great, comfy and lasted really well. They were dark (grey/black) and I think looked reasonably smart, although clearly a boot.

I use these too when working in factories. Wore them for two long days during a wireless survey, really good.
