Fast user switch, but log off existing user

Afternoon,

 

I am wanting to keep fast user switching, but I would like it to log of the existing user. The problems I have are:

 

-Classroom display screen sound isn't available as an audio output for the 2nd logged on user account. Must get tied exclusively to a app with the first user.

-I've noticed Cisco Umbrella has an issue where if a staff member is logged onto a laptop, then a student switches to their account. The staff members less strict web filtering is still applied to the student that logs in as a 2nd account.

-Client Devices do become slow or unresponsive if multiple users are logged on.

 

So I could disable fast user switching, but then if the computer is locked, the only option is to restart the machine.

 

It does seem from what I've read is if a machine only has 3gb of ram, when you select switch user, the existing user gets logged off. That would be perfect, except we have 4gb of ram an of course going down to 3gb would be silly!

There are powershell cmdlets to enable and disable. It gives you a log out button on the locked screen.

Quick Access is disabled in explorer.

We disabled fast-switching as we found PCs with 10+ profiles all running and people wondering why the machines were running a touch slow. We now actively tell people to restart PCs if abandoned, if the member of staff loses anything it is their own fault. Lock screen is for nipping to the loo or getting prints, not going to teach a class and coming back to your special machine.

 

Everything runs a lot smoother. The only complaint we had was last week when someone asked where it went. This was after 7 years of being turned off.

The other issue with users been logged into different devices is if they change their password.

 

We disabled it at our last org as well as forcing desktop PCs to restart overnight, solved more issues than it caused and everyone was OK with it.

You could deploy a scheduled task that logs users out when the PC becomes inactive.

I also turned off fast user switch .

Instead i added the "Sign off" button to the lock screen as shown in the link above.

 

Windows 10 with a SSD logs on so quickly it doesn't seem to matter.
