Hi, does anyone know of a whizzy tool I could use for creating login cards for pupils? Currently we use a mailmerge using an Excel data spreadsheet into Word but we would like something a bit more creative with a border, unlines etc to add more info per card. Perhaps a Word add-in? Thanks.

Is Word's merge functionality not suitible in some way? When you say "login cards" do you basically mean a printed card of some sort, maybe something that can fit four-to-a-page on A4? Word should be able to handle that as a sticker sheet - you can buy stickers of appropriate size, or perforated card sheets that you can run through a standard laser printer. If you can't sort what you want with Word then I'm working on a utility at the moment to do merges from Word (or Docs) templates stored on O365 / Google Drive that might do what you want - can you provide rough examples of the page layout you're aiming for and some example (not live!) data?

We used a system called Card5 was a little pricey to buy, and worked with Zebra printers; it let you print out good quality hard plastic cards which you could source separately with magnetic stripe, chips, plain. We just used plain ones and printed barcodes and QR codes on them along with photo etc. This was more for access / ID purposes, and we had a separate Access database, later an SQL db sync'ed to the MIS by Salamander Software.

If it's just a login reminder type card as mentioned, Word is pretty capable of a variety of things. We used to make sticky labels to act as the library card for younger kids and it would be stuck in their planners / homework diaries. Plus the library barcode was also their username, so it was a handy reminder to them ;)

In answer to the question, I am using an 8 label sheet to create a two sided label for 4 pupils per A4 sheet. The idea is that I just print it off and fold them then laminate. Thanks for all of your replies - much appreciated.

Thanks for your answers. I need something that I can import .csv files into to create 8 login "cards" on an A4 sheet of paper that we then laminate. I have tried Word and admit I'm a novice with mailmerge. I have failed miserably trying to insert data fields into a predesigned label format with borders etc. Word just wants to dump my fanciful designs! So I'm wondering if there is an add-in or a freebie out there that will let me do this?
