RobSheehy Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Hi Just wondering if anyone can help me or point me in the right direction. We used to use RM portico so that staff and student can access their network drives off site but that has reached end of life and we've changed serve and they won't reinstall it for us. So we are looking for another solution. Does anyone have any suggestions? We use GSuit so if it could link with that would be great but not essential, oh yeah cheaper the better Any help anyone can give me would be amazing? Thanks in advance Rpb
AlexB Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 (edited) We've used HAP+. I won't say it is all singing and dancing, but it gives access to network shares and is free.... Home Access Plus+ Edited September 22, 2020 by AlexB
Jcx500 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Home access plus. vpn for laptops, Or you can always add it as an remoteapp on rdweb
Michael Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 With G Suite you can use Google File Stream/Google Drive which is free.
ordeology Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 I implemented Foldr in my previous place
dhicks Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 We use GSuit so if it could link with that would be great The Google Drive File Streaming client should install on most computers and give users local-like access to Google Drive files.
supportman Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Sharepoint files online and onedrive work perfectly for this if you have Office 365
smarties11 Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 If you don't want to move your data to O365 or Google Apps, then definitely check out Foldr! https://foldr.io/ We use this and it is fantastic. Apps available for iOS and Android. I'd be wary of using HAP+ - it's not been updated in a long time, nor has it been pen tested.
Chris_Cook Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 Google drive and drive file stream. Take the chance to get rid of old files. We asked staff to move stuff as they needed it. If they had big folders they wanted moving, they could ask us and we would use RClone to upload over night.

achedgy Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Can highly recommend Foldr from an ease of access and security point of view It's not free, but isn't exactly expensive and works really well
FragglePete Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Another +1 for Foldr. Staff and Students love it here and with LDAPS setup (which we all should have done by now, right? ) you can use it a external password recovery/reset system also. Pete 1
bknaggs Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Another thumbs up for Foldr. Should you need it their support is really good too.
dhicks Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 How much is it? Both the Google File Streaming Client and rclone are free - the File streaming client is Google's official tool, users can download it themselves or you can set it up on your network. rclone is a third-party utility that also handles several dozen other cloud-based file systems and is an excellent tool if you're doing anything with cloud file systems.
petben Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Hello, if anyone is still monitoring this thread. I trialled foldr, very impressive but it is (from Foldr) £3500 Year 1 and £1800 onwards. Can anyone recommend a supplier who will supply that cheaper? Thanks
