Refurbished server recommendations

I’ve to replace a physical server on a shoestring budget. I was considering getting a second hand or refurbished server maybe a dell R710 or newer if the budget can stretch.

 

I’m using one at home in my home lab but has anyone any thoughts on using second hand hardware?

 

I have though of going cloud only but I don’t think I’ll get approval for that this year.

We bought 2 refub units recently from ICT Direct. No problem at all with it as it comes with 3 year warranty and with a shoe string budget paying less than £1k for a quite powerful server that was a few years old compared to over £3k for a brand new kit makes sense.

I'll also recommend Dave. He's not necessarily the cheapest, but after getting evaluation hardware from a few other suppliers, the hardware supplied is in better condition and the customer service is worth the extra cash.

 

He also does a better job of correctly checking HP part compatibility than HP documentation.
