1st site/chat: Great, all (presumably) done in short time.

 

2nd site/chat: Didn't seem to know wth he was on about, then passed me to a Meet "expert" (with the same name...) who wasn't any help, either.

I think the major issue is that it was announced and roll out started on the same day (as far as I can tell). Not ideal.

 

I also wonder how many schools will find a 100% ban on non-google users useful. A very small percentage I would guess

 

It will have been either a very large org, or some with insider-influence. Google move quickly and break things - its part of their success.

 

This particular issue is something that MS Teams admins struggle with - balancing usability vs security. There are some edu-unique hacks on the back end for schools, not all of which have worked first time. Some of which also rolled out a within hours of announcement.

Did this over support chat, but the rep was of the opinion that there would be a control for it in our Admin gui. I pressed for clarification since their blog post specifically said that there wouldn't be. After going AFK for a few minutes he returned and filled out the form for our exemption, without clarifying whether the admin control would come in or not (I suspect not).

 

My bet is that the new moderation controls coming later this year will include an admin control for anonymous users that'll be off by default for EDU.

I've got no doubt that they will put the proper admin facing controls in place when the future updates appear, and by default it'll be off for EDU.

Rollout between 13 July - 28 July. It should be in place for all by the 28th.

You can request an exception by contacting G Suite Support.
