Displaying a message at logoff and shutdown

I have been asked to arrange a message that will popup once a member of staff hits logoff or shutdown asking them if they have completed a set of tasks. If they say yes then the computer continues to log them off or shut down if they say no it cancels the logoff or shutdown command anyone know if this is possible and it need to work on windows 10 pcs

This is not a good idea people don't read things at log off they just click and go it would be better done at log in

Then the machines will just be switched off at the plug rather than shut down properly...

 

I agree with ricki that this isn't a good idea at all (also safeguarding - what happens if a student discovers an unattended PC logged in as a member of staff?).

I agree with you but my SLT wish to get teachers to check they have done class registers and other tasks

Having things run when logging off not a good idea as it could stop the process.

 

Could always have the user wallpaper say "Have you done X,Y,Z?".

 

I'm fully expecting our MAT logon wallpaper to be updated to remind users to clean the keyboard/mouse when they log off/log on.

We did this at my last secondary school - you have to be a little careful to cope with different screen sizes. We tended to have it cover current themes as directed leadership team or Heads of Year for key dates. It's use was both to message to staff and pupils.

Out of interest, what sort of tasks? Is it as suggested above things like cleaning after use or more related to the work they are doing on the computer?

Sounds sensible. One of the things we hit was that sometimes the Year Head want a scan of a PDF on screen - ultimately the resolution on some monitors made it unreadable, something not noticed on his lovely 27" monitor. I don't suppose there's a powershell script that makes staff think more broadly

As everyone says, its a bad idea, but given you've got to do it, with my programming hat what I would do would be to write a program to make a logoff button that sits on the screen (memories of the CC3 logoff button!) and ask people to use that to logoff. When the button is pressed, it asks the questions and if no response after an amount of time, report as a 'user clicked no to all questions'. Finally, the program initiates a logoff request to windows.

Sorry this is gonna sound like a rant but I would refuse to do this on principal. This isn’t an ICT issue this is a management issue using ICT as a method to fix something this SLT member should be enforcing. Demonstrate a scenario where the teacher leaves in a hurry leaving themselves logged in and the slt member can play little bobby who now has access to any amount of confidential data about other students etc etc.

 

Little bobby can also delete the whole staff and student shares

 

Little bobby can then read years worth of emails with confidential info

 

Little bobby passes his course with all a*

 

Have I missed anything that little bobby could do.

 

As much as I hate this idea also it better than compromising data and security. As a compromise I would as suggested maybe include the reminders in the design of your wallpaper.

We still use BGInfo for desktop backgrounds. It would probably work really well for something like this, Text on a coloured background would be super simple and incorporating the school logo shouldn't be that hard.

I mean definitely don't but it would be funny for about 3 lessons.

Laminate (optional) printout on the door of the classroom with the simple instructions printed on them.

I like bginfo it's easy to update and kids like the wallpapers changing
