maxrebo Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Hi, Sorry if this has been asked before - I had a quick search but couldn't find anything. We've just started using Teams - A Few of the teachers have noted that the pupils can mute everyone including the Teacher, is there anything in the Polices to stop this? Also It seems they can remove others from the meeting, can this be changed in the policy? Thanks
supportman Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Yes simply schedule the meeting and change the meeting options to presenter only. You can also do it mid meeting now with the button in the top right corner 2

supportman Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Perfect, Thank you. Is there any way you can set this as default, thus taking out the need for Teachers to change this? Yes there is a powershell command these days as well, but you have to be careful as it makes all meetings default to presenter only so can apply to management meetings etc. 1

Whilst were on the subject - What "policy package" do you have set for your students? I have the "Education (Secondary school student) and then in Assigned policies i have created my own and applied them. Is the correct way?

We created a custom one, but thats becuase we've been using it a few years and the policy packages are just a recent feature. I think using Education (Secondary school student) is fine.
robyholmes Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I used to use a custom one but now I've changed the default to block the majority of things, then created a custom staff one which is applied to staff. The policy packages can't be used with customer policies (Unless I'm missing something) so we just apply them manually. However schools tend to have less staff and students so it's better having it that way round. Safer too.
3s-gtech Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Same as above, changed the defaults. It means that when any new accounts are created by Salamander it just gives them limited perms out of the box. Staff change infrequently so much easier to apply.
kennysarmy Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Does anyone know of a powershell script that will output all users in a tabulated format listing all their Teams policies?
maxrebo Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Right I'm stuck with this one, Could any one help me figure out why pupils can still get to the muting of other pupils and also it seems like they can kick others out of the meeting. In my testing on a similar account to the pupils with the same policies I cant replicate this but they are definitely doing this as someone has done it today and also a Teacher has confirmed they can do this. Im missing something somewhere in the policies but cant seem to see the wood for the trees! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

In which case your policies won't be relevant?
maxrebo Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Are they students getting on to the meeting's as guests? In which case your policies won't be relevant? Possibly?, I thought as being a member of the Teams that this wouldn't be the case or it wouldn't be possible? How could they join as a guest?
kennysarmy Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 Not sure of your setup but if they are being sent the URL link to the meeting then they could click on it and be admitted via the lobby, there would be no requirement for them to be signed in to O365...

Creation of meeting is done via Teachers Calendar and then this is added as normal in the Team and also an email inviting to the meeting to their school email address. I assume some of them will be joining via the link in their email but most via Teams. Is it different when they join via link in Email?

mdrabble Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 How are they starting the meeting of the team? If they schedule and add the students as attendees then that should stop them. https://alicekeeler.com/2020/03/22/microsoft-teams-meeting-setting-students-as-attendees/ Someone posted a powershell script to set the teacher policy as only one who can present which is another work around.
maxrebo Posted June 19, 2020 Author Posted June 19, 2020 Ok so I've made a bit of progress on this, changing the "Who can Present" setting to Only me stops them from muting each other but it hasn't removed the ability for them to remove other participants out of the meeting!. I've just been on the phone with MS about this and they suggested that the students shouldn't be Members but Guests??. Could anyone confirm how they have their pupils added in each Team? we currently have them as Members and staff as owners. Thanks

Thanks I understood this to be the Meeting Roles bit rather than the Team membership itself. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/roles-in-a-teams-meeting-c16fa7d0-1666-4dde-8686-0a0bfe16e019

I wonder if this is the difference? Seems silly to, even in a corporate setting, allow any one to kick anyone!
