Hi

I’m a MSA working for a school which will transfer from SIMS to Bromcom within the next 3 months. I need to ensure as much preparatory work is completed by 22nd May, as the migration will be occurring during half term.

I thought it might be an idea for me to start replicating the aspects/resultsets/gradesets we have within SIMS, in Bromcom. I am assuming that this will need to be done anyway, in readiness for the time our data is migrated from SIMS, and when we'll go live after half term, so that the incoming data has a definite destination point within Bromcom and will not be rejected.

I have a number of queries relating to this process, as follows:

1. Will the migration from SIMS to Bromcom automatically include those from an external provider (i.e. CES Assessment Services)?

2. Presumably it will just be a matter for me to create the individual gradesets within Bromcom, and clone from there as required. However, when it comes to the ‘Marks-Decimal’ & ‘Marks –Integer’ gradesets, will I need to create these individually, as they’ll have different maximum & minimum thresholds?

3. Are there any other particular points I need to bear in mind when replicating our existing assessment components within Bromcom (I’ve been on the assessment training course, and wonder if there were any definite do’s & don’ts when I come to do this)? In addition, are there any particular sections within the Bromcom documentation centre which you have found to be particularly relevant and helpful in assisting you with the process?

Apologies if I haven’t made myself clear. Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

Hi CarterUSM, welcome to Bromcom! I've answered your questions below (in italics). The answers are based on adopting the Bromcom method of assessment - we can (and do) migrate the SIMS method for some customers but this is not the norm, most opt for Bromcom assessment method which is much easier once you understand it. You don’t need to do the import until you are live and your Customer Success Manager will be able to help you with this. If you want to send me a private message with your contact details and school name, I can put you in touch with your Success Manager to talk you through in more detail.

1. Will the migration from SIMS to Bromcom automatically include those from an external provider (i.e. CES Assessment Services)? Bromcom answer - No but if the data is exported out into Excel the import functionality in Bromcom is really easy and can bulk import multiple years/subjects/terms all in one go

Bromcom answer - the "Marksets" will need to be set individually if the boundaries are different

Bromcom answer - the key point is to create assessment types based on the overarching collection and then use the exceptions within that Assessment type to pick up the differences with the gradesets. Again, your Customer Success Manager can help you with this and provide a How To guide.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply. I've contacted all relevant colleagues for them to act upon your message as appropriate.

I've now started creating gradesets, and would like to clone a new one from an existing one. When I select the appropriate gradeset by franking the box next to the name, and then click on the 'Copy' icon, the message 'Copy to clipboard' appears (as per the attached screenprint). Could you let me know where the clipboard could be found? Also, how would I paste the contents from there to create a new gradeset to be amended as appropriate?

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

The copy your referring to is common on most list windows and just takes the text in the visible table to the windows clipboard so only useful to take the text visible on screen - which in this case isnt any use at all.

With gradesets there isnt much need to copy tbf - I suppose if you look at BTEC and CAMNATS there is some commonality but its quite quick to create them and you only need each criteria once so I would just simply create what you need as you can use the gradeset in numerous assessment types so little need for duplication within gradesets - that make sense ?
