Sky Q issues!!

Ok at my wits end with Sky at this moment in time! Have a ubiquiti network at home and have upgraded to sky q. Have one main box in one room in the house and then in the conservatory have another. The main one in the lounge has the satellite cables plugged in and the mini has no cables.

 

The issue is that the sky q mini just won't connect to the main box even if it is connected to the internet via ethernet or wifi (wifi coverage is fine as done by plenty of ubiquiti APs)

 

Looking into the issue it looks like sky is trying to create a mesh network and they keep trying to send me wifi boosters which is not what i want. Can i connect the sky boxes via ethernet and if so would the process be Sky Q (main) > Router and Sky Q (mini) > (Router) or Sky Q (Main) > Sky Q (mini)

 

Anyone else had this issue?

They certainly don't like ANY 3rd party connections. So Powerlines, second router etc are out (or are in my case). Had it connected via ethernet powerline, no good, then via wifi but to my TPlink (Closer, and connected directly to sky hub via cable), still no good. Weaker wifi connection but straight to Sky hub - no issues.

Plot thickens, my main box one keeps dropping the wifi, all other clients on the network are fine! Sky are useless with networking!!!!

I have to run two witless networks, my ubiquity one for everything all on one SSID then a sky one an SSID using the original sky router just for my sky mesh, my main sky box would not connect to the ubiquity for more that 30 seconds :-(

Known issue as I found out yesterday, go into your settings on your controller and turn off auto optimize network and it will connect.

Logon to your unifi controller, select the site if you have more than 1, settings in the bottom left corner, then under services about 15 lines down there turn off AUTO-OPTIMIZE NETWORK and apply.

Yeah not a Sky issue, plenty of info if you Google Sky and Unifi!

I use powerline adapters, and they work brilliantly for me.

I know sky were originally building powerline into their Sky Q boxes, but I believe they've disabled it now.

I researched Q till the cows came home before I bought it, and was adamant I’d be using LAN or my own WiFi.

 

Nope, I’m using builtin Sky from the main Q box, no issues whatsoever.
