Hi there,

Teacher says they have not dropped the laptop or put pressure on it, but I am not so sure, I am pretty sure this has been damaged and is not a ribbon issue. Any ideas?

Looks like the LCD is damaged. The lack of uniformity in the area towards the top centre of the screen gives me the suspicion there has been pressure applied in someway.

I can't say for certain though.

Looks like it's been damaged - every display I've seen with those symptoms is because it is cracked. How the crack happened is another story.

In my opinion, the LCD is definitely damaged and will need to be replaced. I doubt you'll get to the bottom of how it got broken, but I'm betting something in between the laptop when it was closed or in a laptop bag.

Ahh the classic "I didn't do anything, it just appeared like that" :lie:

Should this be moved to ICT Request of the week? :D

Haha! It is such a commonly asked question! Never seen it just in this corner though.

Does anyone know if it is economical to replace?

It is a half decent i5 Lenovo L460

Looks like they're around £40.

Edit: Beaten to it

They may not have damaged it on purpose but glass doesnt crack randomly on it's own else the Windows on our houses and cars would be crack all the time and they don't.

:pray2: Had exactly the same a couple of weeks ago only takes half an hour to replace, the fun I had was the teachers blaming each other as one had lent it to another...
