Hi all,

How do you guys convert .exe to .msi for GPO deployment? Is there any free software that will do this? I have used Advanced Installer in the past but the paid version costs a fortune.

Cheers

There are a few free bits of software, like AppDeploy Repackager. Sometimes you are lucky and can extract an embeded MSI from an EXE when if one is placed in a temporary directory. In this day and age a lot of us have moved over to using SCCM, PDQ or WPKG-gp to deploy exes using silent switches. This could also be done via boot up scripts. What are you trying to repackage at the moment? Maybe one of us has it or extracted it from an exe.

We don't, usually. Lots of .exe installers can now be pushed out via a .cmd or by just copying the install directory across - I haven't had to convert or extract an msi for years. Is it absolutely necessary in this case?
