I'm currently investigating an issue with audio quality on a 3CX system. Randomly throughout a call we seem to lose the audio from the external caller.

Our SIP trunk provider has looked at captures their end and indicated the issue is from our end.

I have run some wireshark traces on the 3CX server on site but cannot see anything obvious. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what to look at?

Cheers

I'd make a call to a mobile phone, play music or something at both ends, record both ends, and record wireshark, when no one else is using your internet connection. Compare results. Then try again during the day when internet connection is busy.

Can you see bandwidth usage of internet connection? Does the audio go off in both directions? Does it turn into bad quality audio or just cut out?

Have you checked your Firewall/filtering? We had issues with freePBX and it was related to our firewall (Sonicwall) reaching it's threshold for UDP packets which caused Flood attack Protection to kick in.

Another possible culprit is any SSL Decryption or deep packet inspection that's happening in line. If the appliance doing it isn't able to keep up with the quantity of traffic then you interrupt the real time nature of the call.

obviously this assumes the traffic is encrypted, but we have previously seen it happen.

HI,

We are looking at getting 3CX now. Would you recommend it? How log have you had it for? Did you experienced any other issues?

Thank you,

How is 3CX connecting to your phone system ? On-Site hardware via external IP, vpn, cloud provider? Dedicated SIP line or on same as main broadband?

We have a dedicated SIP broadband line connected to our onsite Unify Box.

I VPN into the school site, and 3CX connects to the site's internal box IP as an extension.

I've made /received several calls over the VPN link whilst been in lockdown and callers say i'm loud and clear.

I set one of my external IPs to only be accessible to the Gamma IPs (and my home IP), on our normal 100/100 fiber connection. Connecting from home via microsip or the phone I took home with me works by default (sip.school.la.sch.uk maps to internal IP on LAN, and external IP on external DNS). Need a VPN to scale it to everyone though.

Morning @mrssevage

Just spotted your post and wanted to let you know that here at VeryPC we've used 3CX as our chosen VoIP provider for over 12 years. We've got a dedicated web page with all the information you'll need and how we can help too!

I'm going to get one of our sales champions, John Levis, to drop you a PM. He's an expert in all things 3CX and VoIP - look out for his message! :)

I've had 3CX implemented for nearly a year now and its brilliant. Really easy to setup and managed and theres great online resources. They even have an online virtual academy so that you can get 3CX certifications for free.

By far the easiest phone system I have ever had to manage.

See if the SIP providers will give you any help/advice or ask them to show how they have determined it is on your side. Edited by Davit2005

I've been using 3cx at home for at least 3 years, no problems at all. I am having some issues getting it working from devices from Internet such as my own phone, maybe firewall related, I have no support contract as it is free version.

It recognises some SIP trunk providers out of the box but it is not difficult to create a trunk manually, I've had to do that.

You will also have to check what phone templates. Whilst there are custom templates on there from what I have seen it is way easier if you have a supported phone. I have it set up now so I just have to add a phone, make sure the phone is tagged on voice network on the network switch, plug in the phone and it downloads the config.

I would suggest a getting a trial and then you can test internally or even get a SIP trunk and test externally to internally.

There are free/opensource VOIP versions out their with communities and sometimes paid for support.
